Anyway we can get out of his contract?
I may be the only one but I think we should try and get out of that contract for a 2010 expiring for the simple fact of using money. We can get a player through a trade or resign AV and still be able to offer a max deal in 2010. If we resign AV for almost 7mil then instead of adding 7mil we are only adding 3 mil. If we do a trade and add a contract it would also be 4 mil less and Ferry was looking at contracts for less than 9-10 mil.

I'm guessing the Cavs want to keep Boobie since his shooting will compliment Shaq. If I was Ferry I'd consider packaging Gibson and Hickson and see what type of player they could get in return.
BTW, Broussard reported the Cavs are looking to give AV 8 mil per season for 5-6 years. That's overpaying but maybe he doesn't have a choice if OKC or Memphis are in the mix.

Varejao better be in the gym doing 3 a days this summer. He needs a consistent 15 foot jump shot to get that type of money.

That would be overpaying IMO.

Gibson will undergo the "Damon Jones" effect this year.
Rememeber what happened to Damon Jones one year alongside Shaq? Yeah, he was money and we overpaid him.
Next to Bron and Shaq, Boobie is going to be raining threes all night.

He better, because his game was hot garbage last season.

Randolph is now in Memphis and Millsap will get an offer sheet from Oklahoma City.
David Lee is still out there. Andy has no suitors - again. Overplayed his hand again.

What's Gibson's contract?

If we don't keep Gibson we better not forget to sign a replacement trey-bomber, remember Miami forgot to do that after they won the Championship and suddenly the offense became very messy. I'm in favor of keeping Gibson, since we may struggle to find a shooter that capable of hitting the open 3. Or if not keeping Gibson, get some other trey-bomber BEFORE we let him go.

Sadly, your 'trey-bomber' was fifth on the team last season in 3pt%. I hope he can pick it up next season, and that his toe injury was more nagging than we were let on.

Shaq makes everyone shoot better, all his teams had guys shooting career-high trey-bomber numbers, Gibtitties will be no exception

The lack of Boobie will not turn our offense into a mess. It would be a good sign if it did but Gibson does not have that type of importance. Unfortunately...

I've also asked this on another board: what makes Daniel Gibson so popular with Cavs fans and why does he have the contract he has? I've seen him play multiple times both in the regular season and in the playoffs the last two seasons, I've looked at his stats, both standard and advanced, and I can't help but conclude that he is a fringe NBA player lucky to have a guaranteed contract and not needing to earn one every summer. I see nothing but a dime in a dozen undersized player who can hit a three.
Is it loyalty towards drafted players? Is he a great locker room guy? Anything else?

Daniel Gibson is not overpaid. As how i see it it is Brown's fault that Gibson is not being productive.
Gibson was the 2nd biggest reason why Cavaliers made the nba finals 2 years ago.

Dude! Guys like him are a dime a dozen. He's not even as good as Eddie House and he only makes $2.8 mil and he couldn't exercise his option fast enough. The Cavs have overpaid a bunch of bums the last few years and Varejao is next on the list. Actually, he was already on the list cuz he wasn't worth the contract that he opted out of.

I agree. Brown is resistant to developing the young guys. I pray that Ferry is not thinking of bringing AV back to the Cavs. The most I would offer him is 4 million per year and that is over paying IMO.

I think Gibson has the ability to score a lot more points than he did in the last 2 seasons. There are a lot of good shooters but not everyone has the ability to score a lot and stay effective.
He could be like the player that helped Cavs reach the final and owned the rookie challenge once if Mike Brown gives him the chance.

I truly believe that he is a guy that would step if he is asked to step up.

At this point, Gibson cannot create for himself or others for the most part, he's essentially a spot up shooter. If he gets a consistant jump shot and proves that he will hit open 3's, I am content with keeping him. I am also hoping that his nagging toe injury last season was holding him back, much like Ray Allen in '07-'08. Gibson started the season with a nice little teardrop, but...
