Lamar Odom

Post#1 » by Wisedude42 » Sun Jul 5, 2009 6:39 pm

Lakers are already $12M over the luxuy tax amt of $71M with next years payroll at $83M. This means they would have to write a check to the NBA for $12M and Lamar Odom is still a Free agent.

It doesn't appear they can sign Odom amd pay his salary and pay an equal amount to the NBA for additional luxury tax.

The Cavs have the perfect spot for him between Shaq and Lebron. When you look around, the Cavs are the only doable team for him.

Ferry needs to present this opportunity to Lamar and his agent. Lamar is from N.Y. City and went to Rhode Island so he grew up in cold weather.

i think odom would be awesome in a cavs uniform, i still think the lakers will resign him hes eventually going to lower his asking price down to 7-8 mill a year, which the lakerrs will pay.

the only way he will end up in the cavs is if he is willing to take a 1 year deal at the MLE, so he can test free agency again next year or we can resign him for more money.

Not a chance of happening. There is no way he'll take the MLE from us.

Would never happen. Especially with his AAU ball teammate Artest there now, not possible.

The only team who could sign him realistically is OKC or POR, and neither has indicated any interest. He will end up back in LA.

We are sooo Eff'd right now with Rasheed to Boston. Lamar Odom would be good for our team but Lebron's non commitment question mark in 2010 have cost us a chance at signing good free agents. We need to make a move to catch up with the Lakers and the Celtics. No power forward no wing player. We are soo Eff'd!

LO would be fantastic on the Cavs, but since they can't offer him more than MLE while LA can because they have his Bird rights, it's not going to happen. Blazers have the only shot at LO, besides L.A. There's a slim chance that happens, but only if they throw about 5 years and $50M at him. Which would be odd unless they intend for him to play SF, since Aldridge starts at PF and can't switch over to C at all the way Gasol can.

I honestly hope you guys sign him. Because whatever hurts the Lakers could end up helping one of our teams in the finals.

we can afford to go over the tax becuase dan gilbert has stated money is no object to him in trying to build this team, he already cut a 20 mill check for ebign over the tax, so i dont think he cares about money. second it would be for the MLE which we have not 10 mill

Your board is really weak on Laker knowledge. Please do your research before spreading rumours/making any false judgement. Though I would like to stay away from your board, I can't help but post every now and then when you bring our players/organization in your conversations.

BTW - Lakers make a heck of a lot more money than the Cavs. As such, the Lakers can AFFORD to go into luxury tax. Whereas the Cavs are biting the bullet to appease LeBron. Dr. Buss and Mitch K. have already said LO will be retained. LO helped in recruiting Artest (check out his twitter video and interview on ESPN & KLAC LA radio podcast). Need to know anymore......

As AmusingFiddle pointed out some of you Cav fans don't really have enough knowledge of the Laker organization as you think. I hope most of you realize the Lakers are under the AEG umbrella. You guys have heard of AEG right ? It's owner Philip Anschutz is worth 7.8 billion. He owns a 44% share in the Lakers with rights to be the principle owner should Dr.Buss sale.

The Lakers aren't worried about being 12 mil deep in the tax, the Lakers can make that back in almost 2 playoff games alone next spring.

Also you want to hurt the Lakers because they are younger than most of the other title teams. Celtics Big 3 are all in there 30's, Magic have VC who is 32, Cavs have Shaq that is 37. Spurs have Duncan and Manu who are 32.

Getting Odom away from LA makes it where LA doesn't have anymore room to grow or get anyone else.

That is the most asinine comment I've ever heard. How did you come to that conclusion ? You do realize the average age of this team was 26.2 years of age, outside of Fish no one else is not even close to 34. So they'll still be pretty young even with Artest. Losing Odom wouldn't be the end of the world.

You could still only offer him the MLE as you wouldn't own any Bird rights. Lamar would have to sign a 3-year deal at the MLE to be able to reup with you for more, which isn't happening most likely when the Lakers are going to offer more than the MLE for those years.
