Channing Frye.

Post#1 » by InBoobieWeTrust » Mon Jul 6, 2009 11:09 pm

Thought I'd open a discussion about signing Channing Frye for the BAE.

http://twitter.com/PDcavsinsider

The Cavs are meeting with Frye today(we still don't know who the guys they met with yesterday were).

For 2 million dollars and the ability to still use our MLE, I wouldn't mind the signing at all. Windy also mentioned in his article that he's a guy that Ferry had been coveting for years. The last guy who had good stats early on, was traded and benched, that Ferry coveted, was Delonte West.

He can spread the floor and he's fast enough to guard perimeter guys like Rashard Lewis, although he is soft in the paint for a 6'11 guy.

This move, IMO, would be a pre-lude to using the MLE on a wing player (Childress, Parker, Marion) and bringing back Varejao for defensive purposes.

If we went into the season by gaining Danny Green, Josh Childress(example), Channing Frye, and Shaq...while only losing Ben Wallace, Sasha Pavlovic, Wally Szczerbiak, Joe Smith and Lorenzen Wright...I'd be very pleased with the off-season.

I don't think Frye is the starting PF on a championship caliber team. As a reserve he is an OK signing..

I'm OK with it as long as it's only the BAE. If he gets any part of the MLE, no thanks. Then use the MLE on Childress and it's a successful offseason :)

thats what im thinking as well

a pf combo of mcdyess/frye would be awesome...a pf combo av/frye would be a train wreck

hopefully this means av is signed and traded somewhere (preferably to atl for jchill)

I think Childress is going to demand the full MLE though. I dont think he is worth it.

But your right about Varejao that guy is not worth 45 million........pass!

Since it's for the BAE, I'm all up for it. However, I hope he isn't going to be our starting PF..

I would definitely take Frye. Varejao is garbage. For 2 million Frye will be a good backup or at least as good as Verejao, but much cheaper. My hope is still that McDyess accepts our 2 million dollar exception. I just love the intangibles. I still think there are some trade possibilities with Big Z.

The Varejao hate is unbelievable. I wonder sometimes if Im watching the same games as you guys. This "what have you done for me lately" routine is killing me. Sure Varejao didnt succeed against Dwight, but there arent many guys in the league that truly can say that they could. Its not Anderson's fault we had a flawed roster and he was asked to perform a role he wasnt equipped to handle. I just dont get it.

I'm with you Bmac, Varejao actually had a very good season except for the Orlando series and Cavs fans are definitely giving him too much blame. That along with the ridiculus notion that people aren't signing with the cavs because of LeBron (which is also being promulgated by Cavs fans). I don't thing Varejao should be a starter, but then, I really don't think the majority of players that people want to come in to replace him should be starters either.

im just tired of all the off the court bs from anderson and fegan. my satan comment may have been a little harsh, but im just sick of his constant over-inflation of worth

andy was good for us last season as our team was constructed at that time but since the shaq trade, our team dynamics have changed. with shaq down low, we need someone like mcdyess (and his ability to hit the mid-range j) in the power forward slot - andy doesnt do that (and i dont think he ever will).

so with shaq, andy isnt a starter but wants to be paid like one...and im just done with it. i'd rather give the remaining power forward minutes to dblock and jj after mcdyess (really banking he signs with us because he is the perfect fit) and lebron

After I look at the full body of work, I can honestly say Andy is a lot better than I give him credit for being. My only problem with him, is that he values himself to highly

Its not that I "Hate" Anderson. He wants Nene money and he has half his game. He is a PF that has ZERO back to the basket game and ZERO in terms of a jumper. He defense is suspect at best and one NBA rule away from being banned in the league. He is one of my favorite players because he plays with such high energy and he wins games by doing so. Its the fact that he is holding the Cavs ransom with some pretty unrealistic contract demands.

I'm 100% behind this plan. To me that is best case scenario.

Will Frye even go for the BAE? If he would go for the BAE, Varejao goes for MLE money, and Cleveland use the MLE on a big, athletic wing, then I think the roster would round out well.

Williams/Gibson
West/Childress
LBJ/Childress
AV/Frye/Hickson/Jackson
Shaq/Z/Frye

Frye would be nice to have in case of a Shaq or Z injury, but there would be a log jam of young backup PF's.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

This year would be crowded, but next year Hickson and Frye would be all that's left.
Andy either walks now of signs a 1 year deal (they can't give more without screwing up the 2010 cap).
Z walks off in the sunset.
Shaq may get extended but nothing's guarenteed (or is it?).
Jackson is roster filler.

Can't hurt to have someone over 6'4'' on the 2010 roster.

It seems like that's still up in the air. Most people will agree he only deserves the BAE, but supposedly multiple teams are after him and he might jump at the team who offers him the most money.

Also, Frye said he'd be a good fit in Cleveland, from the wiretap. Him specifically mentioning Cleveland is a good sign imo.

^^ CV expressed interest in playing with Cleveland several times in his Twitter account.. I don't want to get too ahead of myself like I did with CV.

Return to Cleveland Cavaliers
