Sources: Cavs ink Moon to offer sheet

The Cleveland Cavaliers have continued their offseason remodeling by signing restricted free agent Jamario Moon to an offer sheet, according to NBA front-office sources.
Although the full details of the offer sheet are unlikely to be known until Monday, when the contract is submitted to the league office, sources told ESPN.com that the deal Moon signed Friday spans at least two years.
The Miami Heat will have seven days to match the offer once it's formally processed, but Cleveland would appear to have a good chance of landing Moon given Miami's well-chronicled desire to avoid new contracts longer than one year to protect its 2010 salary-cap space.
There are exceptions to that policy, as evidenced by Miami's well-chronicled attempts to sign Lamar Odom away from the Los Angeles Lakers. The Heat, though, have multiple players at Moon's position -- Daequan Cook, James Jones and Yakhouba Diawara -- even if they don't land Odom, raising doubts about their ability to keep him.
After trading for Shaquille O'Neal and signing Anthony Parker to take their payroll beyond the $80 million mark, Cleveland has spent the past week looking for free-agent bargains as it tries to add depth at the wing positions and find a power forward that can stretch the floor with his jumper. The Cavs had been linked in recent days to forwards such as Rob Kurz and Sean May before signing Moon.

What is up with the Raptorization of the Cavaliers?

^ add Joey Graham and you are good to go.
But FWIW, Moon is a good player. Raptor boards seems to hate him because he's jumpshooting but they forget that the entire team played just as soft. Don't know how Cleveland is going to use him tho, he isn't exactly a good spot up shooter.

Don't like this guy at all.. He took some incredibly terrible shots for the Heat in their games towards the end of the season..
However, he does have the size to defend..

Moon didnt get a fair chance under Mitchell, and played much better with the Heat.
If money is low, its worth it, especially with weak FA crop out there

Moon is a good defender against athletic SFs like Gerald Wallace, Marvin Williams, Rudy Gay, Richard Jefferson etc. but he can't guard the craftier skilled SFs like Paul Pierce, Tayshaun Prince etc.
He's a good player in the open court and can catch alleyoops from extremely difficult positions on the floor. He gets many deflections and does NOT turn the ball over a lot. He led the league in Steals to Turnover ratio this past season, and shoots a decent percentage from three (about 36% which is approximately the same as players like Joe Johnson and Dirk Nowitzki.
He's also a great rebounder at the small forward position, and his main faults is inability to take the ball to the basket (i.e. creating his own shot) and untimely jumpers/3 pointers (shot selection)

Not a huge fan of this move at all. Especially with Barnes still available.

You do know that Mitchell was one of the people who WANTED Moon on the team cause he wanted to give him a shot. Sam saw a bit of himself in Moon (Journey man).

The only reason I like this over Barnes is his youth. Not that Barnes is old but he lets face it we got a lot of age on this team. Any way Moon is smaller but actually plays the PF position, and frankly putting Lebron Parker or Barnes at that spot is a stretch sure they can do it but they wouldn't thrive at the spot. I remember Moon hitting some big shots against us when we played the heat. I like his jumper and his D. I think when he is out with the second team he has the chance to thrive. If we did a complete five guy flip flop (which Brown will never do) he would be playing with Boobie and Greene and Parker and Z. Z and Parker will take serious focus from the other teams back ups and maybe Moon can learn to use that to make his own shots. If anything this will keep JJ and DJ to minimal minutes on the floor cuz Brown will be confident enough in Moon to play the PF with Z down there as well. I was afraid we would have to rely on JJ or DJ to much so this is a move I like. I still feel some sort of trade though coming. I dunno why I just think Ferry is not satified with this team yet. He realizes Boston and Orlando Changed the team out look while he just made upgrades. If not though I still have a good feeling about this team. And lets pray the Heat get Odom away form LA, that would be baller.

No mean to troll, but Barnes is only a couple months older than Moon. And Moon is actually taller.
Good pick-up, but I think Barnes is better. It's gonna be interesting to see if Miami matches or not.
How much of the MLE does Cleveland have (not counting Moon)?

Although I'm not thrilled with many of these guys (Moon, Barnes)-- I actually think Moon is the better overall player due to the fact he's a much better defender and is also a superior finisher than Barnes, while being the same in terms of of 3pt shooting, better overall shooting percentage, and a much better FT shooter as well..
Either way, just a role player.

I'll take Moon over Barnes 10 times out of 10.
Barnes isn't a better shooter, and Barnes legitimately cannot defend. There's a reason that he's basically said he wants to play here, but the Cavs didn't offer him a contract. Moon is a lot better than Barnes defensively, and brings everything that Barnes brings and more offensively.

Need to know the contract details before I come to any conclusion. I was looking for someone who could hit an outside shot. At least, we know he is very athletic. Also, have to wait up to 7 days and see if Miami matches to keep him.

Sorry by fair chance I meant Mitchell was a brutal coach who unfortunately stayed around for the Raps to have a good year, got coach of the year and was extended unfortunately. Moon is soft, which is not a good combo with Mitchell.

I am still holding out hope that a move will be made for Big Baby or Kleiza. However, the Cavs just don't have the $$$ to get it done. Although the Cavs have improved, they still have glaring weakness at the 4, backup wing position, and PG. There is still time for a move to happen. It should be interesting to see if the Heat match.
