I want Bowen and either Powe or Smith...

Post#1 » by Amon_Ones88 » Sun Aug 2, 2009 4:51 pm

I love the idea of signing Bowen talk about beefing up the second team defense!!! I would take Bowen of Boobie any day with how good our team already is defensively. Now if we do not get Powe then Smith has to return. I am pretty sure we can get any two of these guys, mainly because of our BAE and we are allowed to use veteran's minimum, and if we have bird rights to Smith I think we can actually take all three! But lets just say two, and lets say Powe doesn't wanna leave Boston. So we sign Joe Smith and Bowen.

1st team: 2nd team:
Mo Williams Bruce Bowen
Delonte West Anthony Parker
Lebron James Jamario Moon
AV Joe Smith
Shaq Z

Your second team has three scorers in Parker Smith and Z and your defense from Bowen and Moon. The plus side is none of those players are liabilities on the other side of their game with the exception of Bowen on offense. I would like all three if possible but I think I like Powe over Smith, I just do not know if that is going to happen, and if it doesn't that is basically a Joe Smith Guarantee.

What do we think?

Bowen's defense has been on the downside for a while now. He is not the same defensively as he was 2 to 3 years ago.

Bowen is considering retirement, isn't he? Cleveland's roster is a bit overcrowded anyway, imo. I don't see him getting any playing time, even if he would be signed, which seems unlikely at the moment. Besides, I'd prefer some young player who can help in near future instead of Bowen, especially considering his age.

I would pass on Bowen personally. He looked done last year. We are deep at the SG/SF position right now with LBJ/Moon/Parker/West/Green/Jawad.

Powe I would like to get. Wouldn't be opposed to filling out the roster with both Powe + Joe Smith - can never have enough big man depth especially if we are looking at trades down the line.

But that still doesn't mean he would be a good addition.

Isnt Bowen a SF? Why would you have him backing up the 1? I dont see where he fits with the addition of Moon and Parker.

Also Im not so sure at this point in his career that Bowen is better than Boobie.

I don't want Bowen. He is washed up. He can't guard anybody that we would want him to. His offense is not much better than Ben's.

Between Smith or Powe, I would rather roll the dice on Powe. If he can recover he will he a huge help for this team. Even though I love Joe, I don't want to add another old big man.

A healthy old big man is better than a young forward that only has one working knee. Ok. Some people won't think that's funny.

But seriously, either Powe or Smith would be OK if the contract is right. Rumor is that Ferry's made offers to both of them. My guess is that Powe got a two year, min-salary deal with only a small portion guaranteed and Smith was offered $2Mil (or maybe $3Mil if the Non-bird allows) with the first season guaranteed and the second year only guaranteed if Joe's not waived before Aug 1st 2010.

Now we just have to wait to see if either of them gives up looking for something better or if the Cavs go into training camp with Kurz.

I don't think Bowen's really under consideration by the Cavs.

I agree with the part about taking the gamble and going with Powe over Smith, but I don't agree with not adding Smith (if Powe declines). Yeah he is old but he'd be a cheap short-term option that wouldn't demand major minutes and still fill a need nicely.

and lol @ Bowen playing the 1.

I would take all three. If I said no to one it would be Smith but I think he would fit.

Bowen- Likely would get garbage minutes and not be an integral part of the rotation but there is one reason I like Bowen over most players. Experience. Coach Brown has a great system that works but he needs players with a decent basketball IQ. Bowen can mentor Danny Green and Jamarion Moon to improve their man to man defense just due to Greens inexperience and Moons low IQ rumors. He has the most experience guarding Kobe and the Western Coference guards and I can even see Lebrons defense getting better.

Powe- I think getting Powe would be great because he wont be ready until midseason likely close to the trade deadline so if we do a trade that leaves us thin in the frontcourt we have insurance. I think this works in the long term.

Smith- fits right now. He extends the floor until we see wht we got. I like that he knows the system.

Bowen is only 38. There are probably tons of 38 year old wing players who have succeeded in the NBA. I just can't name any.

How many surgeries has Powe had on his knees?

At least Joe Smith has shown that he can play at the NBA level, albeit in a limited role.

we dont need bowen and he wouldnt play anyway with all the SF and SG depth we have. I like getting both Powe and Smith alot but i think we should make a play for Kleiza if Denver rescinds their qualify offer to him. I think he would be a good fit here with his range.

We would probably get out-bid again if Kleiza became unrestricted. Some team would offer him a larger chunk of their MLE.
