Delonte West Arrested On Weapons Charges

UPPER MARLBORO, MD (WUSA)--Prince Georges County Police say that Delonte West, a starting guard for the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers, was arrested at 10PM, September 17, 2009, for possession of two handguns and a shotgun.

Prince Georges Police say West was stopped for unsafe lane changing while riding his Can Am Spyder motorcycle, northbound on I-495 at Central Avenue.

Police say that officers found that West had two handguns and a shotgun in his possession and arrested him. West, police add, was very cooperative.

A Prince Georges County Police official says that West was released on personal recognizance. Court records indicate that he is scheduled to appear in court on November 20, 2009.

Delonte West is a graduate of Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Maryland, where he led the Raiders to their first tournament appearance. West played for the Boston Celtics, the Seattle Supersonics and was traded to the Cavaliers in February 2008.

An NBA star and former area high school player was pulled over and arrested in Prince George's County on Thursday night after a police officer found he was carrying three loaded guns, authorities said.

Delonte West, a guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers, was driving a three-wheeled motorcycle north on Interstate 95 near Route 214 in the Largo area when he cut off a Prince George's County police officer, authorities said. The officer pulled him over, and West told the officer that he was carrying a handgun in his waistband.

That prompted the officer to call for backup, and investigators found that West was actually carrying three guns: a Beretta 9mm in his waistband, a Ruger .357 strapped to his leg and a shotgun in a guitar case slung over his back, said Maj. Andy Ellis, a spokesman for the Prince George's County Police Department.

West, who is 26 and lives in Brandywine, was arrested and charged with speeding and two counts of carrying a handgun, Ellis said. He was released today on personal recognizance, according to Ellis and online court records.

Ellis said it was unclear where West was going and why he was armed.

I know this is not necessarily the same situation but this reminded me of plax case which got me thinking, what will happen from this in terms of any jail time, where the guns registered, what is the law here in regards to carrying firearms? I know it isnt at all the same as the plax case before anyone starts telling me it isn't I know that but I just wanna know what you guys think will happen?

plax case was due to being in a liquor establishment with a gun + NY harsh gun laws..

Delonte is a good guy and my favorite player on the team....I will reserve judgment until/if he is actually sentenced.

But this was a dumb ass move on his part.

As a Wizard fan this is one Cav I truly root for. Delonte's a PG County, MD, product from Eleanor Roosevelt HS.

But I'm afraid this is a case of don't keep it too real when you make it big. Really bad judgement by Delonte. I hope there's no federal mandatory sentence for this. I think AT best West gets a suspension from this. But, I'm thinking the union can argue due process should take place and nothing should happen until West has his day in court.

El Mariachi ... Spyda Man ... modern day Dolemite ... I'm not mad at Delonte--you do need SOMETHING in the parts he was traveling, but he really lost his mind riding that, carrying all that, and not EXPECTING to get pulled over.

Yea i remember you man, and it has been a while. But i still be on the message boards alot, i mainly post over on rcf. I figure you know what site that is, don't wanna post any links because i don't know if thats allowed or not.
