LeBron James, other Cleveland Cavaliers recovering from flu bug

LeBron James was in a pretty good mood for a guy who was sick in bed the past couple of days.

James and Cavaliers teammates Darnell Jackson and Coby Karl tested positive for influenza A on Wednesday, and although their tests for H1N1 have not come back yet, the Cavaliers have elected to treat those three and the rest of the team's traveling party as if the tests are positive. H1N1 is a strain of influenza A.

In a brief but upbeat meeting with reporters on Thursday, James said he felt much better.

"I think I'm over it now," he told them. "If you get sick, then I wasn't."


Williams, Hickson and Barrett were not tested for H1N1.

Team physician Alfred Cianflocco met with the team at the practice facility in Independence on today to discuss measures on how to prevent further spread of the flu.

James said that he rested at home for the better part of two days and drank a gallon of water a day to help his recovery.

"I think I'm over it now," said James, who still sounded congested.

FYI, this whole "what type of flu is it" thing in the media is silly. If he tested positive for Influenza A he has the Swine flu- just like several million other people so far this year. He's getting over it and will be fine. It can be a dangerous illness, but serious complications are rare, and clearly he is recovering without a problem.

Other than H1N1(Swine) flu there is virtually no other circulating influenza right now. Per the CDC 99.8% of people testing positive for the flu have Swine flu. So all of these sorts reporters debating whether he had Swine flu are basically debating a non-question.

If you tested positive for Influenza A 2 days ago then you have Swine Flu (the other Flu A is seasonal flu, which we are not seeing right now.)

Actually, you read the information wrong. I decided to check your percentages, and it turns out that only 61.4% of the people having influenza-A were infected with H1N1
In 38.8% of the cases sub-typing wasn't performed. (This is usually because it is deemed unecessary by the doctor, and a test isn't performed)
In 0.4% of the cases (or 17 people) sub-typing was not able to be done. Reasoning can vary from sample being contaminated to the person with the flu not being available.

A final note: These stats are only from week 40

Also - although over 99% of the type-a "tested" was H1N1, only 0.5% were resistant. No H1/H3/ or B1 strains were tested during week 40.
