He wouldn't be a huge pickup, but a nice insurance policy. He could be what I thought David Wesley would be for the Cavs a few years back.

I really thought Wesley was going to be a good pickup.

On another note.......I think Daniels could give Mo some good rest at PG cause Boobie sucks bringing up the ball.

They are talking about the vet minimum which doesn't imply a whole lot of risk.

I think Antonio Daniels would be a good role model for Boobie...in contrast to the Damon Jones influence on Boobie. He would be good insurance until Delonte get's his head straight at the very least. I see an Daniels addition much like the Anthony Parker addition...a good complementary role player. Daniels might not have as much in the tank left as Parker, but he can contribute with defense against bigger guards and as a mentor to the CAVs younger guards like Boobie.

Fine with it. He is a better ball handler than Gibson and right now if Mo went down we would have extensive Boobie time cause we have no other backup PG's (with Delonte out)

Would give us nice depth at pretty much every position:

PG - Mo/Delonte/Daniels/D-Gib
SG - Parker/Delonte/D-Gib/Danny Green
SF - James/Moon/Jawad
PF - Varejao/Powe/Hickson/Darnell
C - Shaq/Z/Varejao

Sort of off topic but does anyone have any information on D West as to whether he will play? Last wire I saw said Brown might play him on Tuesday.

I think he would be better than Karl for this team. Nothing against Karl, but Daniels is efficient running a team and at last look at him with Wash, he could still play some solid D. And he is taller than most PG's so that is a plus.
For the vet Min, he would be a good look, and if he isnt what this team is looking for, I believe Karl would still be out there to resign.

Good depth pickup for Cleveland...a few years back, Daniels put up some serious numbers at the end of the season when Arenas went down. Couple 10, 12, 14 assist games, and that was two years ago, IIRC. I think he still has talent to contribute.

(Hawaii, you've been missed if you're who I think).

Personally, I think Daniels' defense is beyond bad at this point of his career. Unless he's rolled the clock back a couple years or is now suddenly heathier than he's been the past couple seasons, I think the Cavs are making a mistake adding Daniels. He was very good 2-3 years ago.

Since, not so much.

I guess maybe the CAVs still have interest in Daniels according to the following news link:

Daniels Works Out With Cleveland

Daniels' top choice remains the Cavaliers and he's awaiting an offer from the team before working out for other suitors. Cleveland has also asked Daniels' camp not to speak with other teams suggesting that an agreement between the two sides could come shortly.

At first, Daniels was hesitant to workout for individual teams but he's itching to play again and wants to speed along the free agency process. He has significant interest from two other teams, including one other contender, but will only consider those options if the talks with Cleveland break down.

Or maybe it's just his agent trying to drum up interest since I have not seen anything from any news outlet in Northeast Ohio. It could also mean the CAVs are hedging their bets on Delonte West's availability or they could be exploring some kind of deal.

It seems that the Cavs are not nearly as interested as some people seem to want. As long as Delonte is available the Cavs really don't have much need for Daniels. It would be interesting however just to see how many shoot first point guards the Cavs could put on one team.

Danny Ferry is once again making another tactical error. I had a post where I leveled criticism on Danny Ferry for not addressing the defensive/rebounding weakness that we saw against Orlando and continue to see. This is another one of many miscalculations. There is uncertainty surrounding the mental health and future of Delonte West. If convicted, he could face two years in prison for gun charges in Maryland. As evidenced by his domestic violence report, West does not have his head together. It is better to hedge your bets and bring in a veteran.

Even if we assume Delonte West has everything together (a BIG assumption), Daniel Gibson has never shown that he can be a reliable backup. He plays well one game and then will be invisible in his next few games. It is not as if Gibson is a rookie anymore. Boobie has been in the league long enough that if he was going to become a consistent contributor, he would have. Antonio Daniels is not the same player he was before, but he will give you solid minutes as a backup. He provides an ability to create off the dribble, a solid mid-range shot, a strong worth-ethic, and solid defense. More importantly, his effort is consistent, which is more than I can say for Mr. Gibson.
