No.

I believe this has been addressed in a previous thread about Brand's ugly contract and declining ability. Right now, Brand hasn't done more than 'Z' who has an big expiring contract and West isn't a throw in.

Brand would be perfect for you guys. You guys are looking to win right now. If Lebron decides to leave, you guys don't have a shot at winning for a long time. Brand could put you guys over the top. I'm shocked that you guys wouldn't trade him for Z and West. It's worth the gamble. If Brand is able to shake off the rust and get back to his old form, you guys would have a shot at winning it this year.

Pass. When JJ went against Brand he held his own, and that's saying something given the lack of experience JJ has at this point in his career.

Brand is a big "name" but that's all he is at this point in his career.

I didn't even think Brand was that good of a player when he was putting up 20/10 in Clipperland. He's an above average big man that is on the decline. West, even with his issues, means more to this team than Brand ever could.

Brand could be coming to Cleveland soon

Post#10 » by heathmalc » Tue Dec 8, 2009 8:45 pm

This is just a guess, but since Philadelphia is wanting to get rid of Brand, and since the Cavaliers tried to make a S&T to get Brand before Philly got him, and the fact that Marreese Speights is due back in 7-10 days (coincidently right after the free-agency period begins), I think there is as good a chance as not that the Cavaliers may make a play for him.

Of course, this is just my opinion, but a lot of things seem to be adding up at the right time.

Why would we want Brand?

At his best he was an undersized PF, and now he seems to be a shell of a his former self with a big ugly contract. Has he shown signs of playing like his old self lately?

We'll take on a long-term big contract, but it'd better be for someone who can still produce at a high level for the length of that contract to help insure that we're building a team that LeBron will want to re-sign with and/or so we can dump the contract if we need to rebuild.

You mean undersized like Hickson? They are the same size...only Brand has a longer arm-spand.

As for playing... since getting minutes in the starting line-up, he is averaging 1.8 blocks, 15.8 points, and 11.2 rebounds in 33 minutes.

So yeah, I think I'd take him if we got him cheap.

He's been getting Marreese Speights' minutes, if he came to Cleveland and worked out, then we'd probably trade JJ or AV in a package for a center.

So then whose minutes does this new center get?

Brand was measured at the pre-draft at 6'7.5", Hickson reportedly grew and is closer to 6'9". Of course he's younger, cheaper, less fragile, much less experienced, but hey at least he still has knees and can get out and contest shots - if he can learn the rotations.

btw, Brand has started all but 2 games this season. I don't find his numbers very impressive, he can't seem to hit a jump shot anymore, his rebounding numbers are in decline, and defensively he's going to struggle when paired with Shaq; but worst of all is his contract.

If the 76'ers were to buy him out, I'd be glad to bring Brand in, but I can't imagine a scenario where we'd pickup the next 3yrs and $51m of his contract unless Iguodala was coming along too.

I'm stuck on the thought of the Cavs picking up an overpaid, injury prone PF so that they can move one of their more reasonably paid, better fitting PF's for another center. What?

Yeah, maybe 8 years ago... but he is 6'9 1/3 right now, and has a wing span of 7'1 (and that was what the Philly Docs measured him at before the trade....I doubt they lied)
