I put the names in (rotating) color because it makes them easier to read than if they were all in black.

You could not have trimmed the list down to players that could help the Cavs?

No.. what would have made it easier to read is if they were listed by position.

What about 'Yi Jianlian',as a Trade Target?

Post#8 » by heathmalc » Tue Dec 15, 2009 7:05 pm

Yi Jianlian is a Power Forward, and he would server a a 'stretch-4'....something we really need. In addition, he is 7'0 tall, so when we put him on the floor with Varejao, they would both be able to help on 'D' as they are both very mobile.

Yi Jianlian has been considered a 'bust' by a lot of people, but in-truth, he just has never lived-up to all the "Dirk" comparisons.

Not only would he be a good addition to the Cavs, player-wise, but with the new Chinese-Connection in our ownership, I think it could possibly help keep LeBron here. Not to mention the fact that I think Yi Jianlian would do a LOT better with someone next to him like LeBron.

A trade that would work:

NETS get:
Daniel Gibson + Darnell Jackson + future second round pick (2011 or 12)

CAVS get:
Josh Boone + Yi Jianlian

Why it works:

- The Nets will have about the same amount of cap space as they'd have without the trade, so that is the #1 thing. Next, Devin Harris & Brook Lopez DO NOT get along!!!!!! Brook broke Yi's lip in a fight during training camp (it was said to be an accident, but when you throw a punch, it isn't an accident). Next; Josh Boone will be gone anyway, and he is someone they have been trying to trade for 2 years. The Cavs can use Josh in Darnell's minutes...although he is a tad more expensive. In-addition, Sean Williams is the guy the Jersey FO likes (may have to do with when he went to BC...probable). The nets only have 4 guards TOTAL!!!! KDooling and Rafer Alston are OLD!!!! They OBVIOUSLY need another guard, and since Boobie is a combo, he is perfect for them. Plus he brings a winning mentality

For us, Gibson is part of a rotation....one that we need to get rid of, and make more permanent. This will give West a LOT more minutes, and also increase Moon's minutes...which can only help us, as they are both excellent defenders, and both are decent shooters. The 2nd round pick that we give the nets has more to do with size than equalling-out the talent. The trade of talent is already equal, but teams dont trade BIGS for smalls....old rule! By throwing-in Darnell & the 2nd, we make the trade more palatable from Jersey's side, plus they get a little back from the 1st they gave away for Yi....not that they are hurting, with the raping Rod Thorn did of Mark Cuban in the Jason Kidd trade.

At any rate, I think this would be a good trade that wouldn't be a block-buster type deal, but would get us the effect that we want....and we'd get it done early enough that Yi & Josh would be able to help us during the post season.

A final benefit: If Boone does well, and Powe does well...then we have an extra big that another team may be willing to trade for.

It would probably need to be a JJ for Yi swap.

We do but putting it in that format makes it easier to read. The way the post is currently constructed is awful.

Any way we can get Carl Landry? He is great this year and I think would be great next to Lebron. And I am not sure Houston would be able to keep him happy coming off the bench, especially if they want to resign Scola. I see them losing Scola or having to trade Landry. I dont even know if they are looking to get more cap because some have been talking about getting rid of Battier but they are set to make a playoff run as is. But Battier may be expendable with how Chase Budinger is playing but I think Battier may be their best chance at actually beating the Lakers but they are small.

But if they are willing to do a Landry or Scola and Battier for cap, prospects and picks I may be willing to do that. They will likely want bigs because they have no length whatso ever.

NO WAY they trade Landry...even if a war broke out!!!! He has been their BEST player this season, and was their best at the end of last season too; which is why so many teams 'tried' to trade for him. As for Scola - he will be turning 30 this spring, and he has already started to slow down, so unless they get a good deal (which they might, due to all the big names available), I expect them to let him go this summer. Shane has been rumored to be available for the last 2 years, and at one point their was talk of the Cavaliers being interested. He turned 31 in September, and although he is listed as a SG, he has played SF for the Rockets mostly. However, with Ariza now on the team, and Chase also playing SF, Shane is likely VERY available. We don't have the personnel to make a 1-for-1 swap and a 2 for 1 is unlikely, so any deal would almost have to be a multi-player scenario. I know it seems kind of unrealistic, but there could be a possibility that the Rockets would move Ming. If they were willing to move Yao, then the Cavaliers would likely be willing to move Shaq, even though Yao wont be back this season. A deal for Scola is unlikely, so unless Houston is willing to trade Yao, then we likely wont be doing any deals with them.

One deal that would work according to the CBA:

Yao Ming & Battier to the Cavaliers

Shaq & Hickson & A.Parker & 2010 + 2012 1st round picks to Houston.

This trade would give Houston another young PF who they could keep to replace Scola, or trade for a future pick, or another player. In addition, they get 2 more 1st round picks for a center that "might" continue to have problems with his injuries, and be forced to miss more time....IE:Ilgauskas.

The Cavaliers take a BIG chance here, because if Yao doesn't come back when expected, then the Cavaliers are scraping the barrel for a center, as Ilgauskas will likely retire, and they wont have a decent pick in the draft for 2 more years. However, it may be worth the risk, because the deal may ensure that LeBron stays, and if Yao comes back @ 100% and stays that way, we will have a 3-man star rotation of Mo/LeBron/Yao which will be as good as any 3-man crew in the league, and may ensure us a few championships.

I also wanted to note:

The trade machine says that this would cost us 10 wins. Which it might.

However, I think the trade-off would be worth it because we'd still make the playoffs, and with LeBron, we would always have a chance to win. In addition, the Cavaliers could still make a couple other deals.
At any rate, next year, our line-up would look like this:

C: Yao Ming/Signing?/Andy
PF:Andy/Powe/Darnell
SF:LeBron/Moon/Battier
SG:West/Battier/Moon/Green/Karl
PG: Mo/West/LeBron/Karl

There is no way Houston moves Yao with his value so low, and also no way a team trades for him at this point. I mean, there a decent chance he could not play again. Go back to your idea of get Yi.

A trade that I think both teams could live with:

Cleveland gets:
PG: Stephen Curry
PF: Anthony Randolph
SG: Anthony Morrow
SF: Corey Maggette

GoldenState gets:
F: Jawad Williams
C: Zydrunas Ilgauskas
SG: Delonte West
PF: JJ Hickson
2010 1st round draft pick (with agreement that Z gets bought-out)
2011 2nd round pick (with agreement that Z gets bought-out)
3Million cash (with agreement that Z gets bought-out)

Seriously? Curry, Randolph, Morrow, and Maggette's crap contract for West, Hickson, and a crappy first round pick? Just stop.

You are aware that Golden State would not give up Curry for Amare right? Why would Golden State give up two lottery picks in Curry and Randolph, Maggette and their best shooter in Morrow (Don Nelson says that Morrow is the best shooter he's EVER seen) for Clevelands crap and a late first round pick?
