I agree, I dont think they are rivals either. Its a fun matchup to watch, but there's no history to it and we only play twice a year. Doesnt really have the makings of a rivalry.

Depends on if they meet in the Finals. If they do, and their next game (In JAN @ the Q) is as 'rough' as this one....I could see there being some bad blood; especially if the Cavaliers dispatch the Lakers in 4 games. I Wonder what Kobe would think then. The definition of rivalry is when two opponents have bad blood between them...I would say that these two teams could qualify, depending on next month's game & the playoffs.

Rivalry's are born out of playoff series, not regular season games.

It's just semantics... everyone had their eye on this game due to the LeBron .vs. Kobe matchup, as far as the teams go, it's an important "measuring stick" for both clubs.

It was a big deal last year when the Lakers came in and beat the Cavs in Cleveland, and it's a big deal that the Cavs went in to LA and beat them this year.

Just like last season for the Cavs, the Lakers fans are now questioning whether their team can beat the good teams, whether they have the heart to play with intensity, whether their bench will ever contribute, etc, etc.

messages aren't really sent over regular season games. if we do it again in janaury, then it might become a trend (like orlando was for us before the ecf's)...but even then it still doens't really mean much in the grand scheme of things

People always say this but the Cavs/Celtics rivalry (If there actually is one) was born when Pierce spit at the bench in a preseason game.

+1. It's been interesting watching the Lakers and Cavs play in recent years, but it would probably take a finals matchup for these teams to be considered legitimate rivals.

first of all a message was sent to the Lakers that the Cavs are not just some team and that we CAN contend...that the Cavs are not just about LeBron, but the whole team...example: Big Z gave Pau a hard time as well as Shaq did with Bynum...it was a team effort, not just LeBrons
and yea the Cavs are in the Lakers heads now...i mean isnt that what you L.A. guys say after ONE game where the Lakers beat the Cavs? that LeBron is Queen James and will never win a ring? i make 2 statements towards the Lakers and you guys go crazy mad...just like your guys crowd...while us Cavs fans stay loyal to our team and keep our composure

We haven't even had a series with them, ever right? No rivalry.

Is there a vid or article on Pierce spitting? I want to watch/read it. Sounds interesting

It's all a media thing to try to market a LeBron vs Kobe thing. I don't think anyone from LA or Cleveland has ever considered it a rivalry. While I think the sending a message or getting in the Lakers heads is not true at all. The only thing this game shows is from a Cavs perspective. The Cavs needed a test to see where they are at in this stage of the season. They passed. The Lakers may or may not have been "ready" or "up for" the game. That is nothing but excuses from LA.

How quick the Laker fans forget just last season. They won two games against the Cavs and they hung their hats on it here at realgm. It proved the Cavs were not good enough. It proved the Lakers were the team to beat. Now they come over here and say it's just one game. It was a meaningless game. Anything to diminish getting a butt whipping on national tv. When you get dominated on your own court, you need to look at yourself all over again. The Lakers are the defending champions, sure. But in THIS season, they haven't proven a thing yet.

The schedule makers sure did a good job of letting the Lakers cruise out to a nice record with a league low 10 games on the road. I look at their schedule and results. They don't really have much in terms of quality wins right now. Best team in the league? Not at this point.

Those Lebron/Kobe puppets are the best thing to come out of the NBA in the past decade.

Funny I have been all over this board and I have yet to read any Laker fans coming up with any excuses. In fact we Laker fans have givin props to the Cavs for winning and we Laker fans haven't blamed anyone but our teams lack of effort and heart they gave in this game. So where are these excuses that you are talking about?

This comment, show me where on this board have you read any Laker posters claiming your accusations? I have only read one poster that said something to this extreme and he was warned by OUTLAW for making that remark, but where do you see Laker fans "Now they come over here and say it's just one game".
If we brought up our two wins last year it was because certain fans including Cavs fans kept repeating that they were the team to beat and that they wouldve beaten LA in the finals if they had played LA instead of the Magic. So Laker fans use the example of the two games we played you guys and we beat you guys. I think its a legit reason if your comparing the two teams that have played each other in regular season if the other team never made it to the Finals.
Lets say for example if we get beat by the Cavs again in Cleveland and we dont make it to the Finals and you the Cavs do, should the Cavs use the two games we lost against the Cavs as a legitement comperison?? Sure why not.

Here we go with the schedule grip and excuses. You fail to realize that true we had an easy home schedule yet you forget to mention that 80% of our games in Jan and March is on the road as well as 50% in Feb. I dont see you mentioning that.
As far as the best team in the league remark, please check the standings as of today we are still the best team in the league even with our loss to you guys. Yet it seems like some of you taking this win against the Lakers like you guys just won the NBA title or something.
Congrads on winning the Christmas game, it was a very good win for you guys and a bad loss for us. Do I care about the loss, yes I do. We got beat by the better team on our floor on Christmas day, that is bad, but am I going to lose sleep over it, not at all. And thats where the term comes "Its just another game for us". Nothing more nothing less. Take it for what it is Just a good game played by the Cavs.
