What would you give up for David West?
If David West becomes available, and it seems like he will be, what would you offer New Orleans for him?
Im sure lots of teams will be offering decent deals so try to be fair and realistic.
Can he put us over the ledge or would you go another direction?

I just noticed we have a thread for trades so move this there if you must. I think it may still deserve its own thread because I find West to be the most likely possibility when it comes to adding a young stud for a reasonable price.

Z (with a buyout) and possibly a 1st round pick. There is no need to overpay for him when multiple other PFs will be available for the roughly the same package.

You must have an odd definition of "young."Roger Murdock wrote:I just noticed we have a thread for trades so move this there if you must. I think it may still deserve its own thread because I find West to be the most likely possibility when it comes to adding a young stud for a reasonable price.

West has the exact skill set that the Cavs need. I'd do Z, Hickson + Picks for West & Posey. If they wanted to buy Z out and we got him back, that's fine. If not, that's ok too.
I'd also do Shaq & Hickson for Okafor, West & Wright.

I'd do Z and Hickson with a Z buyout.
But Z buyout would have to be virtually 100% lock he would come back here because we need him to beat LA.

Hahahaha...is this a joke? Why do people like you always do this? You have to understand that the Hornets are running a business as well and they need to put butts in the seats. Just giving away a 2-time All-Star isn't going to accomplish that. Z with a BUYOUT? POSSIBLY a first round pick?
F outta here...
The Hornets will probably keep Z for their stretch run if they take him for West. They'd probably want J.J. Hickson as well. But I think a combination of Z and Anthony Parker, who has a non-guaranteed contract for next season, for West and James Posey would be the best deal we could POSSIBLY do. It saves the Hornets $1 million for just this season as well as $14 million for next season.
I'd like to keep Hickson, but if the Hornets want him then there's no way we should take on Posey's contract.

Re: What would you give up for David West?
David West isn't perfect. Like most of the stretch-4 candidates his defense is poor, he's undersized, his rebounding is Hicksonesque, his +/- is poor, and his efficiency on jump shots is little different than Z (who's own % is down from last year).
He's also used to taking a lot of shots, and we can only guess how he'd adapt to being used more strategically. By all means, we can use someone else on the club who can explode for 20-40pts on a given night, but we don't want to trade that off for 6-16 games.
Still, any PF who's even just a threat to knock down a jumper will boost our offense greatly. If Donyell could do it, then any of these saps would as well. I trust whoever Ferry gets, he'll get it done on the cheap in terms of talent and make the best use of Gilbert's money.
I don't have a problem giving up JJ for the right deal, but mostly because if we bring in another PF and keep Andy and Powe, there won't be many minutes for him to continue his development.

I'd take Jamison over West. Contracts are the same length, West is 4 years younger, but I think Jamison can still give us more. We could possibly pickup Jamison for less also.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

Hahahah....is this a joke? You have to understand that the Hornets aren't the only team with a PF who will likely be available, so of course we should try to lowball them. Chances are Jamison and Murphy will be available, and both of them bring the same thing we need from West - jumpshooting. Furthermore, West isn't having a great jumpshooting year (.388 eFG%), Jamison and Murphy are doing much better though.imahustla wrote:Triumph36 wrote:Z (with a buyout) and possibly a 1st round pick. And LOL @ the Hornets keeping Z"for their stretch run." Z isn't going to make them any better and since he is only in the deal for salary cutting purposes there isn't much of a reason to keep him around.
Sorry, but I'm not giving what would be considered "fair value" for David West, when MULTIPLE other players -who are as good as if not better than West - almost surely will be available for the same package (or even less).

Re: What would you give up for David West?
I'm a little hesitant about David West. His rebounding and interior defense aren't that great for a PF. Also Paul has had a lot to do with making West the player that he is. He may not be as comfortable offensively without Paul. Sure he'd big a big upgrade over Hickson but Varejao is the one getting major minutes at PF, not Hickson.

Re: What would you give up for David West?
I think I would easily rather Troy Murphy just because he is a one year deal. I would even take AK over West likely. But easily Troy because he is the best rebounder out of the group. The best 3 pt shooter of the group. Defense has gotten better. Plus he is the only guy on the list that can play the 4 or 5. I can see a small lineup to open it up for Lebron with Mo,Delonte, Moon and Murphy. Good defense and a wide open offense.

I'd take Antawn Jamison over Murphy and West.

It's worth noting that Jamison is the only player out of the group who actually makes his team any better when he's on the floor.

I agree, he's a game changer. Murphy is not and West is spotty. Jamison gets it done year after year. It's ironic that I think of him as a winner, though he has only been to the second round of the playoffs once.

Re: What would you give up for David West?
In order of preference, Jamison who may be available with the events taking place in Wash now, Murphy, then West. In terms of talent, Boozer would be second on my list, but I just cant stomach the thought of him in a Cavs uni ever again. I would move JJ and a first plus filler for any of the above, using a Wally sign & trade if the other team just wants cap relief.
I would include Z only if there was a buyout involved but that is just my heart talking there. If there is a deal that get us over the top and Z is moved and not bought out, I would feel for him, but at the end of the day I just want to see us get the title here.
