Windhorst reporting former CSU player Cedric Jackson has been signed:

CLEVELAND -- For the first time since establishing it as their affiliate, the Cavaliers are going to pluck a player from the Erie BayHawks of the NBA Development League. According to a source, the team will sign Cleveland State product Cedric Jackson to a 10-day contract on Saturday. Jackson, a 6-3 rookie guard, will give the Cavs instant point guard help following injuries to Mo Williams and Delonte West. Jackson is averaging 14.7 points and 7.6 assists with the BayHawks.

From other reports, he's a standout defensive player who can't shoot, but is able to create & score in the pick & roll game attacking the hoop.

Worst case upside, he may be able to run some offense when we take LeBron out of the game. Best case: we discover that having a PG who defends his position and is willing to expend energy to attack a defense is a boon to our offense even when LeBron is on the floor.

Or he just sits and rots on the bench for 10days while we make due with Gibson, Parker and LeBron playing big minutes.

Saw him play in the NCAA tournament. Good player all around. Horizon League Defensive POY. Good instincts and passer. Thought he might get picked in the 2nd round, nice to see his shot possibly coming with the hometown Cavs.

From what I remember watching him at Cleveland State, he is not your prototypical point guard. He is a scoring guard who likes to attack the basket. His range is somewhat limited so his ability to stretch the floor would be minimal. Love the guy on defense and I truly think if he is available tonight, we will get some burn against Westbrook. Could even see him playing some 2 guard. I like the addition and think he is definitely a "Mike Brown" type of player.

My team played against his 4 times in the D-League this year. He's super quick off the dribble and can attack with either hand. Really gets to the rim at will. Better court vision than most people would lead you to believe. He can really penetrate and find the open shooter. Strong build and a tough defender. Not as bad of a shooter from the floor as most would lead you to believe (still below average), but really needs work on his free throw shooting. A lot of upside, and could really turn into a player.

This is a good move by the Cavs. Jackson has A LOT of upside. If he puts in the work, I could see him starting for the Cavs or logging a lot of backup minutes in the future.

Cedric looked fine on the couple of defensive assignements against OK. Maybe he's the new Eric Snow. I hope he has more offense game than E.

Thanks for posting your thoughts. Good to hear it from a coach who has seen him play first hand in the past.

I liked what I saw initially from him defensively, he should have an opportunity to pick up some minutes here with all the guard injuries we got. Gibson has a tendency to pick up fouls.
