What's up with Antawn Jamison?

Wizards fan here. I remember when Antawn Jamison was on the Wizards he would always give us 100% no matter how badly we were doing as a team. I thought of him as a professional. He was someone who you could always count on. Antawn Jamison may potentially be a spy/trojan horse, but, even if he was a spy or a trojan horse he would still go out and give you 100%, and rebound the ball a lot and would give you reliable scoring every night.
I haven't been watching that much of him lately since he's on the Cavs and I hate the Cavs (which I'm sure you understand why), but, since he's on the Cavs I thought I'd ask what's happened to him. I watch the highlight reels of the Cavs games and he just doesn't seem like the same player. Is he just not fitting in with your rotation? I had a feeling that Antawn Jamison's numbers would go down if he played with someone like Lebron James, but, his performance seems to have gone down a lot too (with the highlights I've seen). Can a Cavs fan tell me what has happened to me?
I know defensively he isn't that strong of a player. People can just go right past him. He has no defense. But I'm jut talking about offense here. He's usually a reliable player... and even when we had the big 3 on the Wizards he was able to come out and have quite a few pretty big nights. I don't think his skills were on the decline when we traded him to you. Does anyone here know what's up with him?

He's just never played this bad for us when he was with us. So I don't see why he's suddenly sucking on your team. What did you guys do to him?

He's not sucking for us except in that one 0 for 12 game. Other than that he's been just fine.

There is nothing wrong with him, and he sure as hell isn't sucking.. It has only been 4 games. It takes a while to be accustomed to a new team... Obviously his debut against Charlotte was awful... But that was when he didn't have any time to practice with the team.. However, he did play well against Orlando and New Orleans.. Tonight, he was decent, in spite of scoring just 9 points.. He made some big shots to push the game closer. Although he did commit some careless turnovers.. Overall, I'd still give it some time before saying he is playing poorly.. And you should watch some Cavs games, and not just the highlights.

Jamison played very well against NO and against ORL. He did well against BOS when we actually gave him some touches. I'm pleased with him so far.
Over the next few weeks he should start getting featured more in the offense.

I don't think people are paying attention to this team. Fact is there's only one ball and the Cavs basically don't play anyone except LeBron more than about 30 mins. Because of that, Jamison is not going to score as much as he did in Washington. He's just not going to get as many touches. I do however expect his efficiency to go up significantly since he's going to get a boatload more open shots than he ever saw in Washington.

He may not be sucking but from just looking at the box-scores he certainly isn't doing as nearly as well as he did with us. And do you really expect me to go out of my way to watch Cavs games? I'm a Wizards fan. I try to avoid watching the Cavs play as much as possible.

The only problem I have with that logic is that back when Gilbert Arenas was a huge superstar Antawn Jamison still had his nights. He played alongside Caron Butler with the big 3 and he was able to get his fair share of scoring. I think with the right system that Antawn Jamison could play really well with Lebron James.
I guess what I'd say is that playing with Lebron James should be like playing with a healthy Gilbert arenas. Lebron James has similar abilities to Gilbert Arenas back when he was in his prime in my opinion and Antawn Jamison should be able to still be as productive as he was in Washington, if, he can work with the system.

I think his body and mind has just gone into shock from playing for such a pathetic team to actually competing for something once again..
Like Charles and Kenny told Caron tonight, I'm sure they would say the same thing to 'Tawn: "Welcome back to the NBA, Antawn"
I'm sure without Shaq the Cavs will start to run more plays for Tawn down low or on the move now...

And the box score is a 100% indication on how well a player performs... Obviously his stats with the Cavs won't be the same as it was in Washington, seeing how he was the number one option in DC with the injuries and suspensions.. But then again, it has only been 4 games he has played with the Cavs.. Don't expect him to be the double double player he was in Washington, since he is the 2nd or 3rd option on offense.. But expect for him to have an impact on a championship contender...

He wasn't shooting preticularly well in the last week before the trade either and to some extent he's brought the streek with him. He does need some more time adjusting to where guys are going to be on the floor too.
I think the defensive effort expected from him here may be taking a little away from his offensive game too. From what he said, I think he views that as a much higher priority than scoring - and in the Cavaliers' system he's right.
He has looked a little better each game though and we're starting to see the impact his presence on the floor has on defenses. It really does help open up the middle for Shaq.

I find it so funny that someone comes on here and says "He played well for us, what are you doing to him" when the team he played for was a losing team while we brought him in here to help us win games because we think team 1st. He will help us win games before he thinks how can I just "do me". He is a professional and as long as we are winning games and he is helping he will have the time to fit in what he does to contribute more to our winning.

I'm a Jazz fan but I've been able to catch some of the Cavs games since they are often on ESPN or TNT and I wanted to see how Jamison fit with the Cavs. With that said I really dislike what they've been doing with him. Essentially the plan has been to tell Jamison to go sit around at the 3 point line like he's just another spot up shooter. Reminds me of what the Jazz did to AK47 after they brought Boozer in.
I will say though that he looks really really really bad on defense. I've never been able to watch him much since Wizards games are rarely on but he's actually worse on D than I expected.

Antawn is not the 1st or 2nd option of the offense on the team like he was with the wiz.

OMG are you serious? That's really dumb. Okay, repeat after me:
Antawn Jamison is not a SPOT UP 3 POINT SHOOTER
Antawn Jamison is not a SPOT UP 3 POINT SHOOTER
Antawn Jamison is not a SPOT UP 3 POINT SHOOTER
Antawn Jamison is not a SPOT UP 3 POINT SHOOTER
That's just not his game. OMG is the Cavs coach stupid or something?

Yeah, I don't get this either. People have no idea what kind of dynamic actually is needed in order to maximize a teams chances of winning. I don't think that the Cavs have quite figured out exactly how they are going to fit jamison in but for the most part he's played fine. Heck when you eliminate the aberrant 0-12 game Jamison has put up 17/7 on 55% shooting. And that's while the Cavs and Jamison are still trying to figure out how they're going to fit him into the offense. Even more importantly, the Cavs have gotten back to winning again.

It's so funny how people jump to conclusions after one week.
Jamison will be fine.

I agree, getting Jamison was a great move. This team will get better & better as the year goes. When,if Shaq & Z get back we will be 3 deep at every position.
Cav 's wiil come close to last years win total. Cav 's will use the last 20 games to get it together & peak at the start of play-offs.
This is going to be a great ride, get on & enjoy the ride.

Geez, I know passive aggressive when I hear it. Not interested enough to look but it wouldn't be surprising that the OP is also trolling Dallas about Haywood and Butler. Takes more than a week to go from 'how can we screw this up' huddles of the wizards to 'ok, time to pull this one out' huddles of the Cavs at crunch time. AJ a trojan horse? Yea, bet he can't wait to go back to the Wizards. 22 points on 14 shots with 11 rebounds and 3 assists against the Raps second night of a back-to-back. I can see why Ferry was stupid sending the 30th pick for him.
