So, how many games will Shaq lose?

Don't know but did anyone lese notice that Hickson maybe a solid defensive center? He played well against Howard and KG, damn. It the 4 he gets lost but at the 5 he's better closer to the middle. Plus his hopes work well on the boards. Maybe I'm nuts but that's what I noticed.

it depends on if the ligament is torn. A partial tear is 2-3 weeks. A complete tear could be as long as 10 weeks. Nobody knows until they do an MRI today,

Crap!!! Well, he was wiggling it around after it happened, and he stayed in the game. But every report I read says "significant" thumb injury. God, please make it minor!

I've only seen it listed as a severe sprain. That could be a month I suppose.
I hope it doesn't diminish his deft shooting touch. :P

Hickson did look very good defensively at center. I don't want to be too optimistic about it because in spots he's looked all-world defensively at the 4....then there's the rest of the time.

Seeing the success of that smaller (although really just as big as most teams) lineup out there last night just reinforces that we have sufficient varienty in depth to match up well with anyone.

So, in principle, he'll miss the rest of the regular season?
Who will play at center besides AV?
Isn't JJ a litle short? He DID do a good job at Orlando when Andy stuggled against Howard but IDK...

I hope Shaq's thumb injury does not effect his shooting.

I think the worst case scenario is probably 6 weeks. Per Windy's tweet, Shaq did say he was ok after the game. If the ligament is just streched it's probably only 2-3 weeks. Either way Shaq should be back by the end of the season. I just want the big fella back before we have to face a team like Orlando in the playoffs although it would be nice to get Shaq and Jamison used to playing with each other.

Yeah, ditto.
Even if we don't have him if we face MIL ou CHI in the first round it's not a big problem. It could be worse if we play against CHAR, though.

After tonight game, we play New York on Monday and New Jersey on Wednesday, March 3rd. The Cavs and afford shaq to sit out till the 5th of March if need be.

It's going to be a lot longer than that, lol.

BW:

Shaq going to Baltimore today to consult at National Hand Center. Team still not saying how long he'll be out.

He will be seeing Dr. Thomas Graham, who peformed hand surgery on Larry Hughes in 2006. Sounds like high-powered second opinion to me.

Not good news...

This scares me that it could be a season ending injury.

PDcavsinsider wrote:Shaq to have surgery on right thumb tomorrow. Cavs do not set timetable but normally for this injury it is 6-8 weeks.

PDcavsinsider wrote:It basically means his regular season is probably over.

PDcavsinsider wrote:The Cavs got Shaq for a playoff series with Orlando and/or Lakers. He should be back for such a series if the teams make it that far.

PDcavsinsider wrote:The issue would be his conditioning -- despite all the jokes he is in excellent shape now -- & adjusting to a return in playoffs.

Not good news. Feels like it's always something, one injury after another this year.

I'm praying he can recover quickly and get back by the end of the season.

Definitely not good news... However, I am not worried about Shaq as much as I am with Mike Brown being able to make the proper adjustments and rotations come playoff time..

True. We don't have time for Mike Brown to "figure it out" in a playoff series.

Shaq will be having surgery on his hand and will be out 6-8 weeks.
