Looks like Lockridge has elite speed. Possible pinch run option when rosters expand?
Miller’s statcast for 2025 is super tasty.

Sucks about Chourio
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

For the Padres he was late innings defense and a pinch runner..this year the Padres favored another guy (Tyler Wade) for that role.

The Athletic writers are just idiots.
The Brewers weren’t expected to be active buyers at the deadline, and they delivered. Crickets, baby! After making an early move to add catcher Danny Jansen from the Rays, the Brewers’ only other moves were to trade away one lefty (Nestor Cortes) and acquire another (Jordan Montgomery). It’s hard to argue with what’s been working for the division-leading Brewers, but on paper the lineup underwhelms. We’ve said that before. I’d feel better about their chances of weathering postseason pitching if they had upgraded an outfield spot and either shortstop or third base. — SN

We are on Matt Arnold's 3rd season as GM of the Brewers and I think we can see some stark differences between him & David Stearns. Matt Arnold hasnt signed a single free agent to a multi year deal whereas Stearns signed several(Cain, Lindblom, Wong, Garcia, Albers, Chacin, Thames, Bradley) & Arnold has only made practical moves at the trade deadline whereas Stearns turned Travis Shaw into a 2B and traded away Hader. Both were great at player development and talent evaluation. But its clear Stearns was much more aggressive with free agents & trades than Arnold is. Both are great GMs and idk that I have a preference between the two but its interesting

There's probably a bit of correlation with Arnold taking over as the decent TV deal had sunset, but yes, I agree in general. Also, the Hader deal was probably a, "here you go, buddy" setup for Arnold before Stearns left.

Re: Brewers News, Transactions, Trade Ideas - Shelby Miller to the Crew; Nestor to Padres
It's good to have a top-heavy bullpen going into the playoffs, so the Miller trade is obviously beautiful. However, I think a top-2 seed should be a huge priority, and an everyday hitting upgrade would have accomplished a lot more to that end than another reliever in an already very deep bullpen. Oddly enough, the one true impact bat (Suarez) seems like arguably the only who didn't command an overpay in prospect capital, but I don't blame them for sticking with Durbin. Naylor also seemed to command a fair price in a landscape full of overpays, and the Brewers should have upgraded over Bauers.
Why the hell did the Brewers have to pay cash and a prospect to unload Nestor?? I would have much rather traded Quintana for a better return and given Cortes, Myers, Henderson, Ashby, Hall, Gasser, and/or Patrick opportunities to replace him.
This would have been an interesting scenario: acquire Suarez, move Durbin to SS, trade Quintana because he's dependent on good IF defense (which was downgraded with Durbin), and then play your strikeout pitchers more.

The Brewers have an identity and they stuck to it for better or worse through the deadline. Was intrigued by O'hearn but wouldn't have wanted to come close to the haul Baltimore got. Kwan would've been cool and a perfect fit but I'm guessing the cost would have been astronomical, and that's assuming Cleveland would even move him.
Other than that, I don't really see a move this deadline that I immediately thought we should have been all over other than (ironically enough) the move that Oakland did as sellers.

Yeah, rationally speaking you could have justified a big reliever trade considering how much teams paid. People keep talking about the Hader trade as if it was obviously bad, and yet it's one of the major reasons the Brewers have been good the last few years (not just that trade, but the general strategy of selling at the right time). Bullpens matter in the playoffs, but teams were overpaying so much that I would not have complained at all about selling high, even on a Megill or Uribe. Relievers emerge and fall off constantly (Axford, Turnbow, Thornburg, Hudson, could go on and on).
I think the Ramon Urias trade is the only one that kind of bothers me as a missed opportunity though. He's nothing special, but he's a lot better than Monasterio. I guess he doesn't really play SS anymore though.

Damn, Chourio was starting to heat up and has usually been better as the season goes on at every level. They were already short on outfielders who hit LHBs well, and this also means that Yelich will continue to get way too many innings in LF, even with Perkins back. Bauers and Hoskins are also out for a while longer, so the power shortage will get even worse.
I guess Lockridge will get every opportunity to prove that he was worth the trade. I have my doubts.
