Weird story.
Don't feel like imbedding a bunch of tweets, but apparently the A's are their new MLB affiliate. We are choosing between Colorado Springs or Fresno. Sounds like it was Nashville's decision and Melvin is not happy about the situation since they stuck with them while they had their crappy stadium, and when they get a new one they dump us.

Re: Nashville no longer AAA affiliate
Sounds like a bunch of scumbags running Nashville. Melvin offered to play some exhibition games for the Brewers there and everything. **** Nashville

Stupid decision to stay and think they were going to keep you no matter what. Should've gotten the best facility possible and let somebody else deal with Nashville.

Sounds like it's going to be Colorado Springs. Get ready for some ridiculous splits.

Ignore pretty much all stats there, from both hitters and pitchers.
Hopefully this will teach Melvin not to be so trusting of the minor league team's intentions. If you're not happy in a city and you have a chance to go to a different city don't wait it out and hope that you can get it to work in the current city.

****. They had the opportunity to have Fresno. It will be impossible to evaluate pitching there.

I found it funny that a minor league club can tell a professional major league club to go get ****.

Melvin got worked over pretty good. I'm guessing we'll see some AA to Majors jumps.

I didn't know minor league teams could punt a major league team for another one. That's just weird.

Re: Nashville no longer AAA affiliate
At least Nashville Sounds owner Frank Ward finally admitted Tuesday what had become obvious: he severed ties with the Milwaukee Brewers because they didn't win enough at the Class AAA level.
In signing a new player development contract with Oakland, Ward said he felt the Athletics were more committed to winning at the top minor-league level. The Brewers had been affiliated with Nashville for 10 years but hadn't made it to the playoffs since 2007.
Ward and A's general manager Billy Beane signed a player development contract that puts Oakland's Pacific Coast League affiliate in Nashville and the new First Tennessee Park for the next four seasons.
The Sounds affiliation with the Brewers, which began in 2005, expired at the end of this past season.
"The biggest thing was winning," Ward said when asked why he decided not to re-sign with Milwaukee. "Let me just say that I have great respect for (Brewers general manager) Doug Melvin and everything he's accomplished. But winning is very key to us and the A's bring that to us after winning (Pacific Coast League) 11 division titles; they are committed to winning."
Ward was attracted to a commitment to winning that Beane says carries over into the A's farm system.
"We consider winning at this level (Triple-A) as a major part of the relationship, a major part of development," Beane said. "It's one thing to say it, but it's another thing to do it."
In the 15 years the A's Triple-A affiliate was in Sacramento it made the playoffs 11 times, won four Pacific Coast League championships and two Triple-A World Series.
Sacramento ended its affiliation with the A's at the end of this past season.
"The best record in Triple-A during the time period we were in there was something we promised the city of Sacramento and we delivered on it," Beane said. "And it's something we expect to deliver here in Nashville. We recognize the importance that the team means to the community and part of that is making sure that it's a good team. I reiterate that commitment we have to the fans, the city, to Frank, to everybody else involved with the Sounds."
After back-to-back losing seasons the Sounds improved this past year and posted a 77-67 record, but failed to make the PCL playoffs.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I think Indianapolis did the same thing about a decade plus ago. They have a pretty nice facility I guess.

Paraphrasing Melvin a few years ago:
My job is not to make the minor league teams better.
Just thought it was an interesting take on this situation.
