Yoga to the Bullpen?

Didnt see this posted yet so...

The Brewers' website has reported that Yovani Gallardo will go to the bullpen when Chris Capuano returns. This is really another case where the long-term interests of a young pitcher interfere with the short-term plans of thousands of fantasy owners. Gallardo should still start on Friday against the Cubs, and he'll almost certainly get a start or two in July. The Brewers have a stretch of 18 games in 17 days following the All-Star break.

Speaking of Milwaukee prospects, 24-year-old left-hander Manny Parra threw an 11-strikeout perfect game for Triple-A Nashville on Monday. He'd recently made the jump from Double-A. Parra now has a 2.45 ERA and 98 Ks in 95.2 innings. Nice to have an overpowering lefty in the high minors, eh? He's either a huge trade chip for the division-leading Brewers, or he's bullpen help for the stretch run.

You're quoting something that obviously comes from a fantasy baseball perspective. If real baseball people tell you that you need to limit the innings he pitches then I tend to believe that over some fantasy guru.

I think we all believe and hope that this season is going to go a lot longer than 162 games, so if this is what it takes to keep Yo fresh in mid to late October, then Im all for it.

What is with all these nicknames all of a sudden? I don't like them. Yoga? terrible. That's not even the right vowel sound.

That being said, putting gallardo into the bullpen is a terrible move.

How is it a terrible move? I don't know about you guys but I'd like to see him pitch next year and years after that.

You need to limit his innings.

Unless you guys want the same thing that happened to Liriano to happen to Gallardo, he's best off in the bullpen. He's at that part of his career where his arm can easily be damaged with too many innings. Brewers making a great move by doing this.

Exactly. And it's not like he's going to be there for the rest of the year. Once they limit his innings enough where they feel comfortable he'll go back to the rotation.

Just think what it will do to our bull pen it will instantly become one of the best in the NL.

Now we have what 4 guys that come in at any time to get outs.

It is the obvious move. Gallardo has Cy Young potential and you don't want the kid throwing 200+ innings as a 21 year old rookie when he's never come close to that so far in his career. There is no reason to turn him into the next Prior or Kerry Wood when you can simply put him in the pen for most of the season then possibly use him again as a starter in the playoffs.

I'd be so **** pissed if they abused this kid because he's one of the top pitching prospects I've seen in years. Thankfully the Brewers are going to do everything they can do to make that not happen.

So Gallardo is up to about 136 total innings pitched this year. Didn't they want to limit him to around 175 total innings pitched this year? If so and they stick to that plan, we will not be seeing him start much longer. Of course as I write this, Yost is talking about how he will not let Gallardo go much longer than 100 pitches in any start so thats good at least.

It sucks to have to probably burn those last 40 innings while Sheets is out. On the other hand, with the way this team is built to compete for years, I'd be pissed and scared if they bend that rule for any reason.

Remember when Ronnie Lott had a finger amputated so he could play in a playoff game? Maybe Sheets could get some sick new movement on his pitches without a middle finger and be back in the rotation by late next week.

Maybe let Parra start a game or 2 and give gallardo some rest in the bullpen. So he has the strenth for september?.
