Umm, it's the 8th inning and he's the 8th inning guy. Duh.

Yeah, Coffey was a terrible setup guy last year. I'm glad we demoted that piece of garbage for Hawkins.

Man, another horrible game that we should have won. Score another one to Doug Melvin the best GM, and Ken Macha the best Manager ever. Starting Pitching and Bullpen are just horrible this year. These games in April are going to bite us if we are in the race for the wild card.

First of all our pitching has been absolutely horrible the first 10 games - how in the hell are we supposed to win games when our pitching gives up:

Game 1: 5 runs
Game 2: 5
Game 3: 4
Game 4: 5
Game 5: 7
Game 6: 7
Game 7: 9
Game 8: 7
Game 9: 6
Game 10: 5 runs so far going into the 9th inning

Thats an average of 6 runs per game exactly through the first 10 games of the season!! Honestly we are lucky to have 4 wins giving up that many runs. If we keep this up this team has 0% chance of having a winning record let alone making the playoffs!! So unbelivably frustrating!!!! ****!

I hated the Hawkins signing, one of my least favorite pitchers in the game.

I lived in Chicago when he pitched for the Cubs, I got to watch him blow up for the Cubs many times in late game situations. Back then I was very happy to see it. I was bitching up a storm the day I heard we signed him. He is so terrible in close games in the late innings.

Brewer starters (prior to tonight) are 28th in the league with a 6.20 ERA, only ahead of the Pirates and Nationals. They are also 28th in overall ERA with a 5.81 ERA. They finished last year with a 4.83 team ERA, good for 26th in the league. So, after being simply god-awful last season they've managed to somehow be worse to start this season. Awesome.

I think people shouldn't be to harsh on Hawkins tonight for two reasons

1. Macha should have never used him after Hawkins threw nearly 40 pitches his last time out and only had one day of rest before tonight. Looking at him tonight, his velocity was down and his command looked off, obvious signs of a guy who needed another day off.

2. Even with his command off, everything that inning tonight was bad luck except for the hit batter. The leadoff guy hits a 3 hopper for an infield hit. After the hit batter, there was a bunt, a weak grounder that Fielder didn't play well, a non hard hit grounder that found a hole because Escobar was playing up the middle, and a double play. Not a single ball that inning was hit hard, they all were bleeders and grounders that found a place our defender wasn't.

When things are going bad, this is the kind of bad luck that happens. That said, it doesn't excuse Macha for being stupid and using Hawkins after he threw 40 pitches in that Cubs debacle.

This is where our farm system not turning out pitching has been such a killer. To much of our starting staff is comprised of finesse pitchers, our rotation is badly in need of another power arm that can rack up strikeouts. When guys like Davis, Bush, and Suppan don't have great command, their pitches get hammered and the lack of strikeouts also means more balls in play which can be subject to luck of finding places a defender isn't.

Looks like I should be glad I didn't have time to watch this one. Pretty awesome how out the supposed strength of the club has lost us 3 games already.
