Re: 2019 Brewers Trades/News - Hiura Optioned Back to AAA

Post#121 » by crkone » Fri Jun 7, 2019 12:49 pm

Hiura is going to be back up at some point. They need to be confident he's past the super 2 cutoff.

"Hiura has collected 21 days of MLB service time this season, and there are 118 possible days left this season. If he'd stayed the rest of the year, he'd have 139 -- firmly in the dangerous Super-2 cutoff territory (but potentially below the threshold already) if we assume he'll be a big-leaguer for full seasons each of the next two years. Every day he spends in the minors obviously moves him closer to the "safety" below the cutoff."

It was the right move. He will be back. And he was hitting good but I think his K% and BB% were not very good. Defensively had some errors. Patience.

Yeah I think Hiura will be back in ~2 weeks. So far the move has not made a difference in W/L. I think if Shaw and/or Aguilar can't get it going in the next 2 weeks, they can look to potentially move on from one of them and/or look for some outside help.

With Kimbrel and Keuchel off the market, I still think we're a pitcher short. I'm leaning towards adding a bullpen arm. Usually those are available at the deadline, but I'm not sure who is our trade chip.

Useless info from McCalvy. Every team expects to sign their picks in the top 10 rounds.

I thought it was a little goofy that he did his in-game interview with BA and Rock wearing his full uniform, including his cap.

Probably should've posted this in the News thread. He came to the team in 2015 so in that sense he did well to last as long as he did as a utility guy.

If there's one thing I hate about baseball, is the sharp decline a player can have in a short period of time. At least in the NBA/NFL, the decline is typically slower and with age. Baseball you can be a stud all-star one year and unplayable the next year.

And then back to being good the following season. It's absolutely the most volitile year to year with performance.

I think that's a cool thing about baseball. Makes it a bit more unpredictable.

Hernan's versatility was nice defensively, but there's limited value added from that versatility when he's playing so poorly offensively. We don't need a player who manages a sub .290 OBP at seven different positions.
