Cheap ass Mark A. Sell the team or relocate. Taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for upkeep on this clown's toy.

Literally couldn't imagine a worse outcome from a Brewers perspective. Great for CC, though - he gets to stay close to home and manage a club that has shown a willingness to spend.

Literally any other team than the Cubs and I'd be wishing him well. Instead, its f**k Craig Counsell forever.

We may never know for sure but if Attanasio failed to match then F him. If he did match and CC still went to the Cubs then F CC.

I do get wanting to manage a team with a lot more payroll flexibility though.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

It's the **** Milwaukee Brewers. They're never going to spend no matter what fan fiction people believe. I don't think the world's richest man is going to buy the team and spend his life's worth to win 5 more regular season MLB games.

I'm sorry but I cannot find it within myself to criticize Mark A. on this when they were prepared to make him the highest paid manager in the MLB. Was anyone really expecting to have to make him the highest paid manager in baseball history?

Honestly 5.5 is a totally fair offer given other managerial salaries in the sport. That said I'd have matched the 5/40 the Cubs offered. I think it's fully fair to blame both ownership and CC.

So MA went cheap on the easiest decision he'd ever have to make.

The irony here is that Cubs fans melted down 3-4 years ago that their ownership was "cheap" for not going all-in on 30+ year-old Bryant, Rizzo, and Baez. For as much as people hate ownership of teams in cases like this, in baseball, these decisions usually end up being less impactful than you think.

He literally offered to make CC the highest paid manager in MLB. That doesn't scream cheap to me

No he didn't. The Cubs offered to make him the highest paid manager. All it would have cost MA to match is $2.5 million.

Paying a manager is a much more reliable investment than a player. They aren't going to get an injury. Their skills aren't going to deteriorate unless the game passes them by and they refuse to adapt, which is the exact opposite of CC.

It's like the 1 thing a small market club should feel confident in paying top dollar for.

Are we even sure CC accepts our offer if we matched it? I honestly think he wanted out. I maybe blame Mark A more on things in the past that led to CC wanting to leave than their offer now.

I would like to know what happened over the years though. I feel to go to the Cubs when you had a large Mets offer on the table is a little bit of a F-U to the Brewers. Something happened.
