The bottom of the AL is so bad in comparison. Just AL central teams feasting on the white sox.

At least its not like a few tears ago when felt like played division games 3/4 of the season. But agree, NL top to bottom seems much stronger.
Curious if Hurricane Helene impacts Atlanta games tomorrow throughout the weekend. Looks like the path will go through Georgia.

Well looks like Atlanta/NYM will be a DH on Monday so won’t know opponent until day before series.

Hopefully we face one of them. It's possible they'll play just one game.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I really can't believe the A's are about to be done in Oakland.

Have to think Braves/Royals in doubt too as they’re talking like Helene could still be a hurricane into Atlanta.

Re: 2024 ATL Thread - Willie Mays RIP
Ideally Mets/Braves have to play the DH and we end up playing one of them. Looks like the Braves are going to hold back Sale for Monday and he wouldn't be available for the WC series. Fried is starting today, he would be ready for game 2. Mets got a break, they were scheduled to face both Fried and Sale the last 2 days, now they'll likely only face one of them. For the Mets, Manaea, their hottest pitcher goes tonight. He won't be available Monday and not until game 2 of the WC series.
Arizona lost the head to head series with both the Braves and Mets but face a Padres team who, like the Brewers, have nothing to play for and will not be taxing their top bullpen guys. Gallen won't pitch this weekend and is lined up for game 1 of the WC series.

If Royals/Braves' game tonight gets postponed they'll have DH tomorrow. Brutal. Royals have something to play for too, they are tied with Detroit for 5/6.

Re: 2024 ATL Thread - Willie Mays RIP
I have neither the time nor the energy to look at all the tiebreaker scenarios, especially for a 3-way tie with the Mets and Braves and D-Backs, but I'm going to be pissed if the Mets or Braves sweep their double-header on Monday and end up in the 5 seed, gifting the Padres a series against a team coming off a double with no rest while the Brewers match up with the damn D-Backs again.
Judging by Arizona's lower playoff probability, I'm guess they don't own any tiebreakers vs. either the Mets or Braves. I guess it's still possible for Arizona to be out of it completely if the the Mets and Braves split their Monday games. Arizona is losing tonight, but the Mets are losing by more.

Arizona has no tiebreaker with either Mets or Braves. 3 way tie they're out

D-Backs just gave up 3 in the 9th are down 3-0. If lose tonight, think they’re eliminated with a loss tomorrow.
I think that Braves/Mets game has to happen on Monday no matter what now too.

ESPN has Atlanta's playoff odds over 99.9%, and I can't figure out what I'm missing. Yeah, it's unlikely that they lose 3 in a row while Arizona wins tomorrow, but less than a 1 in 1000 chance? Really??

Re: 2024 ATL Thread - Willie Mays RIP
Do we kind of want Atlanta to lose today AND Arizona to win? So they have to use their top starters tomorrow, or at least one. Assume if they clinch they will punt tomorrow.

Yeah, that's kind of where I'm at. I don't want Atlanta to clinch today and have nothing to play for tomorrow. That said, I also don't want Arizona in the 6-seed, so I'm kind of rooting for the Mets to stay ahead of them. It's complicated, but there's no question that having the Mets and Braves face pressure to win at least one game tomorrow is ideal for the Brewers and/or Padres.
If the games tomorrow do matter, I think the ideal is for the Mets and Braves to split their make-up games and both make the playoffs. Having one of them sweep tomorrow could eliminate the other one and put Arizona in the 6-seed with Gallen rested for G1.
ETA: If Arizona is eliminated today, is there any far-fetched scenario where tomorrow's games don't happen? They do sometimes cancel make-up games when the results don't matter, and the Braves and Mets aren't going to give a damn which of the final two seeds they get. If I were one of them, I'd ask MLB for permission to forfeit and prepare for the playoffs.

Also, KC is in, so they will almost certainly run their B-teamers against Atlanta today.

Arizona is winning big and Atlanta is losing 2-4 in the 8th. If the results stand:
Braves would need one win in Monday’s doubleheader vs. NYM; Mets would need one win in doubleheader; D-backs would need either ATL or NYM to win both games of doubleheader

Pads would play the Braves, we would play the Mets.

Re: 2024 ATL Thread - Willie Mays RIP
If the Braves sweep the doubleheader, they make the playoffs as the second wild card and will face San Diego while the Diamondbacks get the final wild card and play Milwaukee.
If the Mets sweep the Braves, they will be the second wild card, and Arizona will play the Brewers.
If the Mets and Braves split the doubleheader, it will be the Mets coming back to Milwaukee while the Braves play the Padres.
