Pete Rose is a bit of a weird one - hits different than Mutombo because of his complex persona. His relationships/wives and the public light there, the gambling and his contentious status with the Hall, the rape charges. No doubt this is a big player loss, though.

As for the Baseball Hall of Fame, I don't think he should have been kept out. Maybe I'm still scarred by the NFL suspending Paul Hornung for betting on the Packers and letting the Bears waltz to the 1963 title, but betting on yourself to win always seemed like a venial sin to me. And now that betting has the MLB imprimatur, even moreso.

Yeah, I get it. Black Sox, blah blah blah. That was over a hundred years ago. And if it's off-the-field morals that's our criterion, the guy who's next in all-time hits, Ty Cobb, was a real Georgia Peach of a racist bastard.

Any chance ya'll would take Hader back...I'd pay the rest of his salary myself if I could just to send him away.

There's a better chance of Attanasio getting his hands on every piece of '82 memorabilia he can find, putting it on home plate and jerking off on it for our opening day ceremony next year than there is of us throwing a single piece of it away, much less burning it.
