If the Brewers choose to trade Greinke, Melvin said he would talk only to select clubs that he viewed as a potential match, rather than make him available to every team.

Really?

Come on Twirlz, do you really expect Melvin to be smart about this?

It makes perfect sense only if the Brewers are planning to offer him a contract in the offseason. Trading him to a contender in a city where he's comfortable would make a big difference in his potential willingness to return. On the other hand, trading him to the Yankees would forever relegate the Brewers to Zach's s h i t-list.

And while many think he's going to get grossly overpaid, let's remember that the Brewers are probably on a pretty short list of teams that he would sign with. Since there probably aren't very many big markets on that list, the Brewers could easily be serious contenders for his services.

jonmorosi: Right on cue: #Rangers scout arrives in Cincinnati today. Zack Greinke is pitching. Not an accident.

The best in baseball, but I can't see them parting with him for a few month rental.

They could if they think greinke gives them a championship. THey have been to the WS and lost. and they already have a young SS in the majors. If Greinke puts them over the top. i think they pull the trigger (hopefully)

Maybe if they threw in Hart or Ramirez? I know it might seem drastic, but if you're getting a potential superstar SS who cares. The Rangers could sure use an upgrade at DH. I'd offer Greinke and A-Ram for Profar, no questions asked. Of course they wouldn't do it (I don't think). If they asked for Hart instead I'd hesitate, but ulitmately I think I would be too tempted to say no.

#Angels have a special assignment scout watching the Cincinnati-Milwaukee series. In related news, here comes K-Rod to pitch the 8th.

Maybe I'm wrong about Mark A. and I'd love to be wrong.

In the question and answer period following his speech, Attanasio was asked about the current state of the team’s farm system.

"It is something we are looking at now," Attanasio said. "We have to make an assessment, kind of go, no-go on this season. Because if we have an opportunity to restock our farm system, for the good of the organization, we have to do that.

"We do have several players who are on one-year contracts and are very valuable pieces to a championship effort, whether it is Zack (Greinke) or KRod (Francisco Rodriguez) or Shaun Marcum and arguably Randy Wolf," Attanasio said. "But if you look at a farm system that needs to be restocked, we have an opportunity to do that. So, it’s an uncomfortable time, obviously, because we’d like to go on a 10-game winning streak here and just talk about adding players. But if we don’t, and we have to pick the right point to make a decision, and we have an opportunity to restock the farm system, then we really must consider doing that because we have three million fans who want to see good baseball and an owner who wants to see good baseball."

I didn't know it was possible for you to be wrong about something baseball related.

•The Brewers remain more likely to sell than not, but they would still like to return to contention quickly. They could ask for big league pitching instead of prospects for Zack Greinke
