From a Red Sox forum

I've gone completely numb, this is unreal.

I'm going to cry...

Orioles win. Epstein just threw up.

This is a funeral. I'm not staying to watch them put the body in the ground.

The Red Sox blow. They deserve to go home for the season. Bye Bye Tito.

I can't believe what I've seen today.....

This is probably the worst moment I've experienced as a sports fan... this hurts bad..

I'm off to drink myself to sleep and hopefully to death.

The worst choke in History for the Red Sox.

I'm absolutely heartbroken.

      :-D

The levels of jubilation and heartbreak Boston fans had to feel tonight been epic.

1. See the Rays down 7-0 through seven innings

2. See Boston clinging to a 3-2 lead late

3. A rain delay comes so Sox fans and players see the Rays score six runs in the 8th inning to make it a game and then with 2 outs and 2 strikes, watch a scrub pinch hitter jack a game tying homer for Tampa.

4. Then in the top of the 9th with only a 3-2 lead Boston has runners on 1st and 3rd with nobody out and Ortiz/Gonzalez the next guys do up, but no runs score.

5. Bottom of the 9th and Boston twice is one strike from winning and instead back to back doubles tie the game. Next batter bloops in a game winning single that the Red Sox new 145 million dollar toy in LF can't get to.

6. A few minutes earlier the Yankees fail to score in the top of the 12th with 1st and 3rd nobody out and then in the bottom of the inning Longoria goes yard about five minutes after the latest Boston collapse to steal the playoff berth, while also forever cementing the Red Sox in baseball history for one of the biggest if not the biggest September choke jobs ever.

If it was almost any other fan base besides Boston/NY/Cubs/Cardinals, i'd actually have a bit of sympathy for the utter and massive kick in the balls torture that tonight had to have been. I'd be in the fetal position right now if that had happened to the Brewers instead.

It was Boston though so i decided to fire up a nice dooby of kind bud and a shot of Jager in honor of this epic Red Sox collapse and the state of complete shock there fans must currently be in.

I think you and I are the two around here with about the same level of contempt for Boston teams and fans. Tonight has been absolutely euphoric.

Yeah I saw that rain delay clip on MLB Network late last night, just so amazing, what a tool.

Joe Posnanski is impossibly good.

"We play too many night games on getaway days and get into places at 4 in the morning," Gonzalez said. "This has been my toughest season physically because of that. We play a lot of night games on Sunday for television and that those things take a lot out of you."

I told Gonzalez that teams like the Red Sox and Yankees have long had those challenges, it's part of playing for a high-profile team.

"Why does it have to be?" he said. "They can put the Padres on ESPN, too. The schedule really hurt us. Nobody is really reporting that."
