Yelich to DH is all but a formality. Just makes too much sense at this point with all these young, tools-y outfielders we have. I'll still temper my expectations for the offense overall though. Plate discipline is something that very few young guys come in with at a major league level, and Frelick was really the only one of the kids that showed any consistent proficiency in getting on base. Totally fine with the ups and downs that playing the young guys brings us, just not gonna expect some dramatic improvement there until I see it.

He has some baggage even if you ignore the sexual assault thing. He has always been an ****. It's also been a while since he was truly good.

The situation would probably be more of a moderate risk/moderate reward.

Hopefully Yelich is ok playing the field 1-2 times a week at most. If he doesn't like it he'll have a sympathetic ear in Weeks 8-)

Bauer is a certifiable weirdo, has been for years.

But specific to the case that got him suspended it kind of seems like he might have got a raw deal there after the evidence came out.

Again dudes always been different so maybe just not a fit in the clubhouse in general but I wouldn't not sign him over the recent legal stuff.

Seems like they have 8-9 guys in the mix to "start" at pitcher so I think they realistically they are not looking at anyone else. Unless they really want to plan for Ross or Rea to fail and/or move to the bullpen quickly.

Yea I think they are done with starting pitching

Peralta & Miley are locks

Then you have Rea, Junis, Hall, Gasser, Ross, & Ashby in whatever order you want to put them in. I'm confident that atleast 2 or 3 of those 6 I named will establish themselves as true major league starters, the question is just which ones and how long will it take to get there

Yelich is significantly worse defensively than Frelick, Mitchell, Chourio, Wiemer and Perkins. He shouldn't even sniff the outfield grass.

I agree. But some players don't take lightly to change of position. I believe he balked at trying first base. Hopefully he's fine as a mostly full-time DH.

I do worry about Yelich regressing at the plate. I wasn’t 100% opposed to moving him but assume with the contract that interest was minimal. There were like no rumors other than I think a Blue Jays one briefly.

He also has a NTC which could complicate any potential trade

I mean he's definitely a guy that speaks his mind and that's not always the worst thing. But he was on Theo Von's podcast yesterday. I haven't checked it out yet, but to me the guy is a top 50 pitcher when he's healthy and playing and could be had on a very cheap deal. Seems like the perfect gamble to take on a rebuilding club that could flip him or turn us into a sneaky playoff contender

It's been a while since he's been truly good? I mean the last year he pitched he was pitching great. He got kicked out of the league for something he didn't even do because he got swindled . The guy might be a prick but to say he hasn't been good at pitching for a while is only because he can't in the MLB. He pitched pretty good in Japan last year

I doubt Bauer ever gets a chance in MLB again. He's 33 years old. He was officially suspended by MLB. Regardless of what his lawyers put out there, the public opinion backlash would be too much of a hit for a team to take for someone who hasn't thrown a Major League pitch in years.

**** Bauer. This club doesn't need that toxic douchebag stinking up the locker room and taking attention away from a fun youth movement. Hard pass.

2020 was 4 years ago. He was still good in 2021 but seemed to be trending back towards career averages.

I have no idea how he looked in Japan or how good of an indication that would be for this year.

I'm not even against signing him if the team thinks he's worth the potential headache. Im Just pushing back against the idea that it's low risk high reward. He's not without risk and he's certainly not a surefire TOR arm.

Not a strict DH yet. He's still out there catching games. Nice pop to have as a backup.

Didn't have him on my radar at all. Splitting time between backup catcher and DH I guess?

Probably a AAAA guy at this point in his career. Hopefully can smack a few dingers. But not a bad add on a low risk deal. Seemed like he was headed out of the league until he had a decent stint in San Diego for the back half of last season.
