Not sure what to believe but hopefully it’s Chourio and Murphy is just overreacting?

Murphy seems the type to run gamesmanship on this. No reason for him to be completely honest in this case.

Chourios previous hammy injury was in a 9-3 win over the Cubs at AmFam

Thinking postive thoughts here!
That was August when we we're rolling... So there wasn't as much urgency to rush him back, and our offense hadn't struggled greatly without him
Now that there's only 2 2/3 series to go at most, maybe he actually is okay this time, they were just up 6 or 7 runs and felt, let's not F around with it, give em the rest of the game off

This is purely positive thought

The problem with trusting Chourio's initial reaction or rationalizing it away as a precaution is that re-aggravating a hamstring injury that recently kept you out for a full month is pretty much almost always a serious issue.

The MRI was done over an hour ago. I doubt they'll say anything, good or bad, for awhile.

Unless he’s out and they have to replace him, I expect/hope the Brewers say nothing about his status beyond whether or not he’s in the lineup for a game.

There's really no advantage to gain by not being forthcoming. It's not like the Cubs have to change any game plan based on if he's playing or not.

Do we know why today is an off day? It really makes no sense. Is it just because they're that afraid of going up against the NFL?

Most likely, yes. Distributing the games to minimize the number of NFL games going on at the same time makes some sense, but there's still late afternoon NFL games, Sunday night football, and of course MNF. I kinda wish baseball would just do its thing.

Too many days off also makes the regular season less meaningful. The depth and balance you need in the regular season doesn't play the same if you have only 5 games in 8 days. It's a different game that rewards different roster construction, specifically if you have a top-heavy rotation and bullpen.

That's exactly it. MLB playoff games don't measure up to regular season NFL, they didn't want 4 games going against the NFL. They'll have one game tomorrow starting 2 hours before MNF and one game starting an hour after MNF starts.

I believe they also want games going every day. If all 4 series played the same schedule then MLB would have no games on Monday or Thursday this week because those would be travel days.

I imagine if it's bad news on Chourio word will get out today. I don't think a roster move would have to be made until tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

I'm watching for game 2 rotation updates just as keenly as I'm watching for Chourio updates. If it's Quintana, I will completely lose my sh*t.

The way Murph has spoken I think the Brewers will use an opener for Priester(Ashby or Gasser probably) and then go to Priester after an inning or two

I don't know why I still occasionally doubt them at this point. I should just kick back and enjoy the ride. I mean, I'm not nearly as bad as the people saying "same old Brewers" after one gd batter or spending all of September and late August complaining as if there's any reason that mediocrity would carry over into the playoffs, but I still owe them a little more faith.

If Greg Council uses the same lineup, it's worth noting that Tucker and Suzuki are extraordinarily split-resistant. Suzuki's entire .030 career OPS advantage against LHPs is basically due to walks, as is most of Tucker's modest .035 career OPS advantage against RHPs. So I think you put in a mediocre opener who has more of the type of pitches the Cubs' first 4 hitters struggle with and then go from there. I won't be shocked if that's Gasser, who has some weird stuff that hitters don't always read well at first. But Patrick has looked really good lately, so my money is on him.

Chourio MRI inconclusive. He will workout today and they'll go from there. Ashby starts tomorrow.
