Salome is on leave because his wife is having a baby. Lucroy took his place and will likely go back to Huntsville when Salome is back.

On a subject that many of you have asked about -- why Carlos Gomez bats second when he plays -- Macha said he thought about flipping Gomez with Alcides Escobar, who has been batting eighth and has a much higher on-base percentage (.354 to .263). Macha said he likes the impact Gomez can have with his speed in the No. 2 spot when he does get on base, such as Wednesday night when he scored from third on Casey McGehee's tapper in front of the plate.

Asked how many players could have scored on that play, Macha said, "Not many."

Macha also said that Escobar, despite being a free swinger, has done well in the No. 8 spot and doesn't want to necessarily mess with that success.

Gomez is picking it up a tad lately, but Escobar has proven he can at minimum be a .330 OBP guy, and so far this year is at .360. Why do we want Gomez running all over the place like a moron in front of Braun/Fielder anyway?
