Lame. I'm neither for or against having the DH but I wish it was consistent in both conferences. Think it's weird to keep separating your sport like that.

I hate the DH, but I don't understand the union rejecting it.

Re: ATL: Offseason - Arenado + $50 million to Cards
I’m one of the few that probably would defend this from Colorado’s side given how baseball works. Their future looked bright when they signed him after 2018. It then crumbled and SD/LA will be 15+ games better than them the next few years.
I bet the Reds would’ve hopped in a time machine and given Votto away for free 3-4 years ago given they had a playoff run in 2020 and could’ve used more help. 2018 Brewers even with Braun being clutch and aging OK on offense might’ve had something better for $20 million for that run. I bet we would’ve wished we took one of the Dodgers deals in 2016.
I’m not sure anyone would be dangling a prospect that projects to be close to Arenado that will make $30-40 million for ages 23-30, meanwhile, Arenado will be on the downswing in a year or two and that contract won’t be as good in 3 or 4.
All of that said, I see the other side and wish my team would’ve gotten in on him because he’s a very good player. And I just wish it wasn’t St Louis.

Re: ATL: Offseason - Arenado + $50 million to Cards
To me, the biggest sin was cutting off the Padres or Dodgers in trade destinations.
I'm not sure if there were better packages out there, but either way, this helps the Rockies down the road*
* - if you have realistic expectations of baseball owners. They all have rough set annual budgets for normal/competitive years. That appears to be ~$140-150 million for the Rockies owner. When they have a shot in hell at the division again hopefully for them in 3 years, I'm guessing they'll be happy they aren't paying Arenado $35 million/year at age 33 or 34 for 3-4 more years.
I know this may drain the casual fan that wants to watch or come out to the ballpark to see a name they know, but they're all going to tune out with or without Arenado when the team is on pace to win 70-75 games next year.

He had an opt-out after this year that he likely would have exercised considering his trade demand and his age likely securing him one more monster deal. That's another thing to consider from their perspective.

Baseball economics is a **** joke

It really is ridiculous and everyone is just numb to it at this point. It's totally broken.
There's no doubt some on the bottom end are the problem too, being cheap just to be cheap. There needs to be some kind of salary floor/cap to even things out a bit.

Imagine being a young, insanely popular and rich 22 year old living in San Diego. That kid figured life out.
