We've very much been solely focussed on that first NLDS matchup for awhile now. Interesting to see if we're just able to get back to full tilt when needed for it.

Only the short starts by pitchers should affect winning %, but not by as much as the team's been in the toilet lately. Some of it can be luck. Part of it is probably that the Brewers were never a .620 winning percentage team (or whatever they topped out as) and had gotten lucky.

We don't have any hot hitters (other than Cain), and there ought to be at least 3 guys hot at any time by random chance. And our pen outside of Hader has been rickety. And the starters haven't been as good as they had been. All around, the team has sucked. It's not just getting a few unlucky losses.

FWIW, people have studied this and "being hot entering the playoffs" means absolutely nothing.

I was researching the possibility that JBJ has had the worst hitting season of this century and found a pretty good list. He's already on it for his "performance" in 2014.

Of course the 1B's on this list were worse players (at least in their hall of shame seasons), but for sheer helplessness at the plate regardless of position, he might take the cake.

How did they define "not hot?"
Systemic problems among the relievers (excepting Hader)?
None of the main hitters doing particularly well for a month?
Even the starting pitching took a step down.
6-12 during the last 18?

I've seen someone quoting outcomes in the last 6 games as the determining factor for "not hot." That obviously would mean nothing (unless injuries were involved).

Hader was great, the rest are hit and miss every game (often miss).
