Bring up Sal and let all the kids play. The juice these kids bring is infectious throughout the roster.

Sadly, Yelich led the team in OBP last year on his walk rate alone, and coming into today he was third behind Turang and Anderson. But I agree he looks like a hot mess.

Nice three inning save. Good for Wilson to give the BP a day off.

We have Tuesday night/Wednesday afternoon. CC will play reserves in one of them. I'm hoping the young guys play tomorrow night. Going against Scherzer would be good for them.

Imagine if the kids are actually good this year? Changes the whole trajectory of the team.

Small sample so far, but very exciting start. And looking at the longer view, the (likely) two best hitters of the bunch aren’t even up yet.

What I do think is pretty clear this year - this team will walk more and strikeout less just based on the makeup of the roster, and steal far more bases based on personnel/rule changes. May hit a few less HR, but I think they definitely score more total runs this year and will be better w/RISP.

Bullpen depth beyond the high leverage guys is probably my biggest concern with the team.

I didn't catch any of the Cubs series, but based solely on this first Mets game, Yeli doesn't even look like a major league player. It's not even that he went 0-4 with 4 Ks. It was the quality of the at-bats, which were abysmal. He looked like a little leaguer just trying to draw a walk. Just completely lost at the plate.

Throw in the ongoing adventures in left field (I'm nervous anytime the ball is hit in his general direction) and I'm not sure he should even be starting in the field or as a DH. I know he will continue to start and start often, but I think the team would be better off (both short and long term) with him on the bench.

Yeah, Yelich looked bad yesterday, but I'm not jumping ship. Even if he gives you around last year's splits (.250/.355/.740), he can still be a quality middle of the lineup guy. Maybe prisoner-of-the-moment type thinking, but if the young guys and new additions (Winker, BA) look better than expected, the offense doesn't really need Yelich to return to MVP form (and at this point I think we should probably never expect it to happen). The leadoff experiment might be short lived though.

One thing that drives me mad about Yeli is the optics of his strikeouts. I feel like 75% of the time when he strikes out he knows he shouldn't be swinging and is trying to hold up. He doesn't even get through the muffed swing without looking defeated.

I'd also like to know where this opposite field stuff with him is coming from AFTER the shift was banned. What the hell man?

I'd just bat Yelich 9th. With how much he's getting paid he's going to get a huge leash but that doesn't mean he has to bat at the top of the order. Use his ability to get on base at a decent rate as the old "second leadoff" batting 9th to try to get on for the top of the order. Your top 4 guys need to be the guys you want to see bat the most and I'm not sure how you can justify Yeli being one of those 4 at this point.

He swung and miss at a 92 mph fastball right down the middle yesterday while ahead in the count, he's not putting fear into any pitchers any more.

Yelich is 24% of the Brewers payroll.
Aaron Judge is 19% of the Yankees payroll.

MLB economics.

I was one of the people not that excited about the Yelich extension because these things don't age well past 30 - little did we know it would go downhill at like 28.

All of that said, we need to pump the brakes a little bit. The fact that speed is being injected as a key component of the game might mean some of these guys are more valuable than even an optimist believes, but Mitchell struck out 40% of the time last year. In 2 months, you guys might want to banish these guys to rookie ball.

I'm not actually saying these guys are going to suck, I hope they're all all stars, but odds are that there will be a major wall hit when pitchers figure them out a bit, etc.

I hope the young guys carry the team for 5+ years, but what does stick out to me so far is the potential shrewd additions of Winker, Anderson, and Voit. All of these guys have a history of being good players and were damaged goods for one reason or another.

Still smiling thinking about that 5th inning yesterday.

Love that they're not dicking around and letting the kids get daily starts.
