No hitter through 6 to 7 runs

Whenever we trade Burnes or Woodruff away, can we add Yelich to the deal?

I was hoping Sunday's game would get him started on a little run, but then he proceeds to go 1-for-his-next-9 with 6 Ks. He's striking out in almost half of his all official at-bats.

That's a great question. In a potential Burnes trade, is it better to get prospects in return or to unload Yeli's deal? Probably can't have both.

You don't dilute your valuable trade asset by attaching a bad contract, at least that's my general trades & transactions philosophy. Worst case, I think you have to eat the deal like we did with Braun. Still think he'll be a solid .250/.350/.700 splits guy, but the power just seems completely gone now. Is it a swing mechanics thing at this point?

Counsell really needs to drop him in the lineup at the very least. Hoping we see Frelick before June at this point.

That is my thing. Just drop him to 7-9 and if he hits, awesome. If not, at least he is not at top of order.

I'm not as down on Yelich as some of you are, he's not great but I think he's slightly above average still. But I do agree he should either be leadoff or at the bottom of the order. His OBP skill which is his main attribute at this long fit perfectly in the 1 or 9 hole. He should absolutely not be hitting 3rd ever

I'm down on him mostly because he's 26% of the payroll (not his fault obviously for signing the deal that was offered). Judge takes up 19% of Yankees payroll. With a salary cap a bad contract still hampers you but without one when some teams have a bad contract(s) they just go get more players. We can't do that.

He's absolutely not living up to his contract, no question there. But I don't think he's a bad player

Yeah. Yelich is a high obp guy who still has value. Unfortunately he is paid like mvp yelich who doesn't exist anymore.

Keep him out of the heart of the order and forget about his salary. It's a sunk cost at this point.

Mitchell should be batting leadoff right now for sure

I am the wet blanket guy - but while I have zero attachment to Yelich, I am still not sold on Mitchell or Turang and I understand why Yelich still is higher in the order than Mitchell or Turang.

Mitchell is on an extended Keston Hiura 2022 run. If you strike out 35-40% of the time like Mitchell, it defies logic that you will bat .315 and maintain a .370 OBP. I don't watch enough to know these days, but he's putting up a historic run of BABIP (usually luck, some speed involved).

Long story short, if you use predictive/projections, it's still likely/possible that Yelich has a better season/next few seasons than Mitchell or Turang. That's why he bats ahead of them as frustrating as he is.

I'd love to be wrong - but Mitchell probably will settle down at .250/.310/.400 or something. Maybe the power he's showing is real and that will bump him up in slugging to a very useful MLB player.

If Yelich continues this downward trajectory, then yeah, I do think that maybe Mitchell surpasses him this year.
