I really wish one of Baltimore or Oakland would win their division so that I can cheer for one in the Wild Card game and the other in the first round (if they don't square off). Unlikely, but Oakland is out to a huge lead at least.

I was at a HS football game tonight while holding my iPhone and watching Bailey pitch his no-hitter. Technology is awesome. But it reminded me of the 2004 draft when we took Rogers over him and at the time that was a pretty controversial move.

But now Bailey is heading to his first arbitration offseason and as of a month ago he was a candidate to be non-tendered.

Rogers has three years in front of him to get to that spot despite being only 5 months older.

I'm astonished that it appears Cabrera will win the MVP over Trout. It shouldn't even close. For all the talk of Cabrera's "historic" season, he wouldn't even be the most valuable 3B if he were in the NL.

But he's going to win the Triple Crown of antiquated stats!

I really couldn't get too mad if Cabrera does win the MVP, if he does win the triple crown.

Mike Trout has his whole career ahead of him to rack up MVP's and we might not ever see a triple crown winner again.

Rather have a guy like Cabrera win it over Trout than have Braun get beat out by Posey. At least Cabrera deserves it any other year.

I really couldn't care less about the triple crown. It's so goddamn stupid.

I don't think the Triple Crown should automatically determine the MVP, but to say it's stupid is pretty over the top. It's a damn impressive accomplishment.

I'm not one of those guys who thinks BA is useless and home runs are obviously impressive. But making RBI out to be any kind of factor in judging a player's performance is silly in my opinion. He had the good fortune of batting behind guys who got on base a lot. Way to go.

To an extent. But isn't a decent RBI total indicative of how a player performs at critical times? When runners are on base?

Your NL leader in RBI is Chase Headley. I don't know about you, but leading the league in RBI with that lineup around you, in that park for half the season is really ****ing impressive. And Alfonso Soriano is 3rd, in the middle of a lineup that couldn't get on base if they played teeball.

Now you can't use RBI to judge a player's performance at all? I understand that people overrate the statistic at times but I think you're making a lot of silly blanket statements that you don't really mean.

It's a stat completely dependent on someone else.

This is his 9th straight 100 RBI season, having a guy you can count on to drive in 100-120+ runs a year isn't useless.

I'm not going to dismiss the Triple Crown as useless. It's obviously not useless and it's obviously really hard to accomplish since nobody has won it since 1967. Any other year and I'd be fine with Cabrera winning it but when you factor in hitting, baserunning and defense Trout is the clear cut MVP.

Trout's team is also going to be watching the playoffs from home, which is something that folks factor in for better or worse.

Other then the fact that Cabrera is the one batting them in, sure.
