It really is a great stance. The prospects we gave up might be the best in our system but they don't project to much more than just normal guys. No #1type starters or major upside players.Odorizzi has the highest ceiling and most project him as a relieved or #3. Who cares if its Rovers or Jeffress. Neither player is close to what we are getting.

None of the guys we traded project to be above average players and are just "normal guys"? Where do you get this stuff from? And since when is Odorizzi a #3 ceiling?

It's been floating around a lot lately that GM's see Odorizzi as a reliever. But yeah, let's keep Odorizzi...HOPE he becomes something...not trade for Zack Greinke...and then maybe in 5 years we can be .500 again atfter all our current players are gone!!!

You guys act like Greinke's some middle of the rotation journeyman. He has the potential to be the best pitcher in MLB.

Yeah, there are a lot of people acting like that. Where do you guys come up with this stuff?

I like the trade, but I'm more debating against the notion that no matter what we give up it is fine. I don't believe that to be the case. We do need to keep the future in mind as well.

I'm okay with the deal because we weren't going anywhere with just Marcum and our farm system was already bad, so make it worse and get an ace in our last year with Prince. Fine with me.

Keith Law came out with his reaction to the deal. Loves it for Milwaukee, hates it for KC. Said they got low upside players and they opted for fit instead of impact.

Cain and Escobar are not top of the line impact players. Neither is special at the plate. I don't like giving up Odorizzi, but he was years away from contributing and a lot can happen in that amount of time. Losing Jeffress, if it is him, would hurt. I think he could have been our 8th inning guy for the next six years.

But again, we got ace, someone with the best raw stuff west of the Potomac. We needed a team like KC to reach on fit, because no way does our package net a legit Cy Young candidate most years.

QFT. What we gave is no where near equal value for Greinke.

Drew Olson said it best on twitter. Prospect is Greek for "hasn't done sh*t"

Law also says we're not favorites for the Central. I have to disagree with that as of right now. This is an all in team, we had better at minimum be winning our division.

Have our payroll, including buyouts at a little over $80M with three bench spots to fill at minimum and possibly a bullpen spot and we still need to fill CF and/or SS imo.

still would not mind signing Pavano to a short term deal. the guy had a 1.18 whip in the AL, he is back to his good stuff.
i am actually surprised the brewers have not went after a player like Pavano they usually go after veteran players like him.
Who knows what we will get from Wolf, and our 5th starter. And who knows what gallardo will be like, the guy still has a lack of control. If we can get him to a good deal, we need to sign him.

There are a million reasons to not sign Pavano, thankfully they really can't now with their money situation.

If Betancourt is our starting SS, I will be furious. I would take anybody over him.

Seriously. I'm a Mariner fan as well as a Brewers fan and I can say unequivocally that Yuniesky sucks. It's not so much that he sucks in the field (which he does), it's that he's just not very good at baseball. At all. Anyone who hates Gomez will loathe Betancourt.

What were the Nats offering? I can't get any confirmation on the exact deal that the Nats had with them....

Jordan Zimmermann, Danny Espinosa and Drew Storen.

Edit: The Royals wanted that package, the Nats didn't want to include Zimmermann.

Yep. The Nationals offer pisses on the Brewers offer. Brewers are lucky to have Greinke.

Greinke also didn't want to go to Washington.
