We had a first place team for almost the entire season and yet I only went to maybe 3-4 games, the fewest ever. When I was home I'd have them on a secondary screen and glance over to check the score from time to time and if it was close in the 8th/9th I would put them on the big screen. I need to see them get to at least the NLCS to ramp up my interest. I guess that's a fair weather fan but I just have better things to do in the summer. The Packers are going through a rebuild and I'm fine with it, I have tons of interest. It's a level playing field in the NFL.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Maybe it was legit, who knows . I'm sorry but I don't buy the "well we offered to make him the highest paid manager, nothing more we could do" argument. Yes there was. And extra $2.5 million is peanuts even for a poor team like ours. Maybe he would have left anyway, even if we matched the Cubs. Maybe he never gave us the chance to match.

I don't think we'll ever really know. We will get lots of spin and misinformation from all over the place.

Even if we did offer $5.5m, there is a huge difference between 3/$5.5m and 5/$8m. Yeah, he's been great but if we suck the next 2 years you have a huge manager contract you can't get out of. Cubs are in a better position to eat that $24m in 2 years if he doesn't work out.

My issue with baseball is it is impossible to be a die-hard fan with 162 3 hour games. I can't convince myself to care and then miss a lot of games, but I also can't dedicate that much time in the summer. Like the Bucks are already a stretch but its half the games, shorter games, and during the dark winter nights.

I'm actually enjoying this and I wish I had some popcorn. Kudos to CC for going all Hollywood Hogan and amping up the entertainment value to an 11/10. I can't wait to watch the Brewers do a fast rebuild and be better than the Cubs every year for most of the rest of the decade, excluding 2024. And when that happens, I will be the first to argue that I suspected some joe schmoe in scouting with a name like Miskatiapowski was the real genius behind the organization all along, not Stearns and DEFINITELY not Craig Counsell.

I hope this also signals a soft rebuild. The $2.5m should have been a no-brainer, and the fact that they didn't do it suggests that they know they can't win 85-95 games every year in perpetuity. Plus it's not just the AAV, but probably also the number of years. And while it's only $2.5m above their best offer, it's about $6m more than they'd have to pay a fresh young baseball mind like CC was when they hired him.

Also, I wouldn't say Mark A low-balled him. I would say the Cubs high-balled him.

Honestly, I’d probably be more upset if they would have ponied up more to keep Counsell. He was great and I love the guy, but he’s not worth being the highest paid manager in the league and some of his decision making in he postseason over the years has been head scratching

Same. If Counsell weren't a home-grown kid, most Brewer fans wouldn't be this upset about it. Peace out, Craig. :peace:

Cubs don't come here until Memorial Day. I never go to Cubs games here. And I won't start now. It's odd we play all 13 games against them before the end of July.

Sounds like the Cubs blew everyone out of the water with their offer

Sure sounds like Counsell didn't give Brewers a chance to match

Very off the cuff, not prepared remarks by Mark A. Sure seems like he's as surprised and emotional about this as anyone.

I guess the joke is on me as per usual, maybe slightly clumsily worded but i don't see what is so hilarious about what he said.

The fact that Counsell was already thinking about leaving in September while in the middle of a division race and before the playoffs is a terrible look imo

He wanted to be paid more, manage a team that was willing to have a competitive payroll, and wanted to stay close to home. I'm guessing the Cubs were the only team that checked all of those boxes.
