Jayson Werth may be what he is, but I can't see somebody giving a guy that is a 4.0 WAR guy in a good season $100 million. You could be right, I guess. Some stupid team could do it, but I see somebody giving him a 4/45 deal or something like that.

Andre Eithier just signed a 5/85 million dollar contract for a hometown discount. Hart's next contract starts there. If you don't think Hart is going to at least approach $100 million, you are wrong.

I would sign Corey to a 4 yr 45 million contract yesterday, but that isn't realistic.

Yea, given how much K-Rod is being paid, it could end up being hard just to find a team willing to pay him 4 million dollars the rest of the season. Maybe if he pitches better the next few weeks, the Brewers could get a somewhat decent prospect if we agree to pick up most or all of his salary for the season.

Agree with this sentiment. I'd almost rather hold, or do a minor buy in another K-Rod type trade than trade just Greinke.

Corey signed a 3/28 extension before he hit free agency, but he would have been eligible for it.

Ethier has posted slightly better numbers, but I get the sentiment. Ethier also probably signed that extension when he was having one of his dominant first halves. He's also posting this .850 OPS in a much tougher division and home stadium than Corey Hart is in the crackerbox of Miller Park and visits to the Great American Crackerbox.

Granted, Ethier gets @Colorado and @Arizona sometimes but if Ethier is in Milwaukee, I think he'd be posting a near .900 career OPS compared to Corey's .820-.830 at Miller Park.

I just don't know if somebody is going to be willing to make a 8+ year commitment to 32-year old Hart, which would be the necessary amount to push it north of 100 million.

Heyman reporting the Brewers are offering Greinke an extension "close to $100 million over five years." And that people close to the Brewers aren't optimistic he'll accept it.

Last gasp effort at re-signing him. We saw the same kind of offers with Sabathia and Fielder, and they got blown out of the water. If we offered him 6/120, I could see him taking it. But 5/100? Nah.

The whole 5 year deal thing is just PR spin just as much as CC's and Prince's "offers". It just pretty much confirms to me that barring injury he's being moved, and I'm pretty happy about it.

Greinke was supposed to start on Wednesday but has been listed (?). Thornburg will start in his place.

I hope he isn't being skipped because of an injury or fatigue, obviously. His trade value would take a dive.

Reds on a streak is a good thing. Still 8 back. If we finish the week 8 back we will definitely start selling.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Phil Mackey ‏@PMac21

I'm told the #Marlins have officially decided to go into "sell" mode. Players available include Hanley Ramirez, Heath Bell, Josh Johnson.

Go CC style and get Hanley

Man has Hanley Ramirez nosedived the last two seasons and these should be his prime years.

If i was a team with money though, i might roll the dice on trading for Ramirez if all i had to do was basically take on the rest of his contract. If though the Marlins also wanted some quality prospects, then i'd hang up for sure.

I was talking about that cow Heath Bell being on the block. Good luck getting someone to take his contract.

If my team had money, I'd definitely roll the dice on Hanley.

There are actually worse ways we could spend some of our money. I doubt we even have the pieces to trade for Hanley, but I'd kind of consider it. The problem is that we've got Alex Gonzalez depending on his health and if Hanley blows up, you've got a 2-year wonder and he walks, or he sucks and you've given up prospects and paid a washed-up SS 30+ million over 2 years.

Yea, that Bell signing looked to be fraught with all kinds of danger the moment it went down. He was not only 34, his K rate went down quite a bit last year while with the Padres. A very bad sign for any late inning reliever.

I probably think closers are a little more important to how teams finish than many others believe, but that said, giving any relief pitchers 3-4-5 years deals at big money is something i'd only do if i was one of the very rich franchises. Even then three years is the max i'd go for anyone not named Mariano in his prime years.

Saw a report out there that tigers might be will to part with Nick Castellanos in a Greinke deal
