At the very least the Brewers will leave this series with a lead over the Cards. So they'll stave off potential disaster. But greed sometimes is good. One more win they'll clinch a play-in spot, and homefield advantage over the Cards if they're the rep. Plus maintain outside chance they don't end up in such a volatile situation.

Brewers really needed to sweep them last series to make it that realistic. Not only are they +2 in the loss column but they own the tiebreaker. Very much not in the Brewers' control now.

I actually think the Cubs are going to give us a window and it will hinge on whether we can win enough to take advantage.

If we tie the Cubs there's a one game playoff for the division title. In Chicago. I'd take it. Lose and you still play a WC game. Win one of the next 2 against St. Louis and a Wild Card game would be in Milwaukee. And if it's Colorado instead of St. Louis it would also be in Milwaukee.

I thought it went by tiebreaker. That gives them a small window I guess. Would have been effectively 3 games so far as the Cubs could control. Now it's 2, with the possibility of a slip-up of the Cubs in the extra game. Brewers have to be perfect the rest of the way, and I'm sure just about everyone here would take a split the rest of this series if offered. Sweeping the Tigers in the finale is very doable.

Why don't the Brewers clinch a play-in game spot with a win in either of the final two games of the series? Minuscule chance at a 3-way tie with the Dodgers? Because Brewers own head-to-head tiebreaker against Cards and Rockies and would be at minimum 3 games up on the Cards with 3 to go.
