Yeah this is what it comes down to. I'm trying to keep perspective here and I don't think this is all that bad although it's kind of a bummer to experience.
The number of low-probability plays they made just in the last few innings of last night's game (granted by GG-caliber defenders) is pretty high. We were barreling the ball pretty much all series right at guys or hitting them in spots that would be easy XBHs/HRs in other stadiums. Not to mention the amount of base-running close-calls that all went the Cubs way.
We were like 35-4 or something absurd that doesn't really happen in baseball before this, and we had like 4-5 guys hitting like MVPs in July/August. We went from a pretty flaccid offense to #1 in the league, that is an insane heater that has to end at some point.
Finally: the Cubs are a very good team, they were desperate, they dropped the clubhouse cancer from their lineup which clearly galvanized them a bit, and they got an insanely lucky break with the rainout/getting to play 5 home games in a row.
Get the win tonight and I'm content with how the series went given the circumstances.
