Same guy who wanted to gut system for Kinsler, Granderson, Gray, and Verlander at trade deadline. Either at this point he's anti-prospect or using it for click bait.

Thats about as big of an over pay as one could do for Archer. Thats a huge price tag and TB would be ALL over that. Dream scenario for them.

I want no part of a move like this at this time.

That said, i don't see the proposed trade as some massive overpay.

It's basically Brinson, Burnes, and Supak for Archer, who has four years left of team control on very team friendly dollar amounts (4years/34 million).

If Tampa put Archer out there for sale, they would have quite a few teams interested and i could see them getting an offer they preferred over Brinson/Burnes/Supak.

More than willing to let some other team beat that. He may strike out a lot of guys but he gives up a ton of hard contact which is why his ERA doesn't match his peripheral stats.

I'd rather sign Jake Arrieta and have him + 3 cheap, (hopefully good) soon to be major league players instead of that trade.

Wonder if Braun gets traded this offseason? I'd say 15% chance but wonder if anyone wants him or we ship him out.

That ship sailed last offseason.

Works for me. They need lhb's and he can be the emergency lhb 1b as well. Incidentally, what's a player's incentive to avoid arbitration in cases like this? I thought he'd get a little more.

Vogt was projected for closer to 4, which gets close to pricing him out as a catcher, even if he's pretty valuable. They probably used the term, "avoided arbitration" because the Brewers probably told him that the possibility of losing to him in arbitration for like $4.5 was not worth it to them - so take this deal or get non-tendered.

He gained full no-trade rights last May. It won't happen unless he wants it to happen. If the Brewers were terrible and Braun was good, he might be interested in a trade, but he has shown little interest in being traded in the past and that was when he was productive, the Brewers were expected to be terrible, and his hometown team (LAD) wanted him. All that has changed now. The chances of any team wanting him and him wanting to go to that team are almost 'nil unless he bounces back, and even then he wouldn't want a trade unless the Brewers suck. Just hope and pray he embraces a move to 1b because it's the one thing that could make him a valuable player again. His defense in lf is only going to get worse and they have other options there, but replacing Aguilar and sometimes Thames could improve the team's offense and defense. Other than a potential big-money starter, I think that's quietly the #1 story-line this offseason.

He hits well, seems like a good clubhouse guy, veteran leader. Arm is crap though. Seems like a fair deal to me.

Not a big fan of keeping a roster spot for Jeffress. Vogt is fine in a vacuum but I was also kind of hoping they'd go after Avila. All in all, I'd say I'm okay with the fact that they're still doing the budget thing and sticking to reclamation projections and bargains, but at the same time I was hoping they'd aim a little higher and think bigger in those areas. There's still time for that of course.

Hard to complain about that deal. If he turns it around those options will be palatable, if not we can cut ties.

Yeah, I think people forget this sometimes and assume we are locked in after they agree.

Seems like a reasonable low risk potentially medium reward type contract structure. I'm cool with it.

Forgive my ignorance but aren't we talking about deals that were made to avoid arbitration? Are those ng'ed as well?

ETA: I guess they didn't tender Hughes or come to an agreement, which is kind of disappointing. Is Drake still on the roster?

Yes. Vogt and JJ's initial year this year would be not g'd. Anyone else doing a deal to avoid arby has the same thing applying to them.
