Zack Greinke is about to earn approximately $147 million through 2018.
Adrian Gonzalez is owed $127 million through 2018.
Carl Crawford is due $102.5 million through 2017.
Matt Kemp has $108 million coming through 2019.
Andre Ethier is owed $85 million through 2017.

Whew. Got that?

That comes to more than a half-billion dollars (about $569.5 million, in case your hard drive just blew up before it computed it). For five players. Five.

Holy **** that a ton of cash for Greinke. Not to mention hes a terrible fit for that LA market. Great on field fit but terrible off field fit.

Remember when we were supposed to feel bad about the Dodgers' predicament? **** that.

Also, he has an opt out clause after three years. He may be able to sign another deal like this.

Yea I don't think anyone has felt anything but ridiculous envy for the Dodgers in years.

Also, fire EVERYONE in KC.

@TBTimes_Rays: Huge #Rays trade is Shields AND Davis (and PTBNL) to #Royals for OF Myers, RHP Odorizzi, LHP Montgomery, 3B Leonard

Did they really have to give them Odorizzi?

Wil Myers for Sheilds and Davis alone is a bad trade for KC, much less giving them one of the best pitching prospects in the minors.

Montgomery is a really good prospect too. He's struggled the last couple of years but if he can get back to what he was (and I think he has a chance in Tampa) he could end up being a #2 starter.

This one has me shocked/floored:

Per @JeffPassan, the Royals were turned down when they offered Wil Myers straight up for Brett Anderson. Am I missing something about Myers?

Passan is saying he thinks he's a corner guy that could be in the Ludwick/Kubel/Willingham mold. Says there are some concerns with his swing.

So are the Royals just that (Please Use More Appropriate Word) or is there some part of this trade I'm not understanding?

I don't pretend to know much about other teams prospects, but I do know that bad teams shouldn't be trading top prospects for ML starting pitchers. What could they possibly be thinking? Even if they have concerns about those prospects you ship them out for other prospects you'd rather have then, no? What an awful trade for KC.

Exactly. I thought Kenny Williams was in charge of this at first, it's a very White Sox move.

The Royals have the young offense, they have flamethrowers in the pen, now they have a rotation. They'll be a team to watch in 2013, or at least they better be.
