Catcher the Brewers took out of Penn State in the 4th last year. He was known for his bat to ball, with more walks than strikeouts. So far it's held up in his first season in A ball, eight 8 BBs and 6 ks.

Going through our top 30 prospects list on MLB, it looks like a lot of them are struggling to start off the season. I'm hoping they will turn it around.

Anyone hearing who the Brewers are scouting for the MLB 2023 draft? I'm sure they will probably draft a SS or CF, but wondering who they are interest in.

Do we have any intriguing arms that are close? Seems like Ethan Small is falling off a bit? Gasser guessing just a bullpen guy.

He's a weird prospect to follow, because most have just assumed he wouldn't ever be a viable big league regular.

Keston hitting .331 with 12 homers is not surprising. He's a classic AAAA player.

I don't know how to feel about this. I kind of want to replace Voit with Keston, but kind of don't really too.

Quero rocking an .889 OPS. Chourio up to .739 after a slow start.

Law:

Jacob Misiorowski was the Brewers’ second-round pick in 2022 out of two-year Crowder College in Missouri, where he showed two plus pitches in his fastball and slider while improving his control over the course of the spring. I caught him on Saturday night in Zebulon, N.C., where he threw four innings — his longest pro outing to date — for Low-A Carolina, showing premium stuff but a delivery that’s probably going to push him to the bullpen.

Misiorowski was hitting 99 mph early in his outing, and worked anywhere from 93 to 99 over the four innings, with the velocity gradually declining as the outing progressed. The slider was every bit of a grade-70 pitch — sharp, tight, with tilt and angle and every good word you can put on a slider — anywhere from 84 to 90 mph, getting some very ugly chases from hitters. I didn’t see a third pitch, although I only saw innings two through four as I was coming over from the UNC-NC State game. He carved up Fredericksburg the first time through the order, giving up extra-base hits to Sammy Infante and Brady House, the latter a double off a 97 mph fastball that might have dented the batter’s eye.

Misiorowski’s delivery, however, is going to make it hard for him to stay in the rotation. His arm swing is very long, and he’s got a lot of effort and head-whack at release. He threw 62 percent of his 60 pitches for strikes, but that’s a little misleading as he got 13 swinging strikes, often on pitches nowhere near the zone — and I don’t think he’s throwing strikes when he wants to. It’s 35 command right now, and the delivery doesn’t give me a reason to project it to average. He is very athletic and creates a really tough angle for hitters with a lower slot from his 6-foot-7 frame. But he’s got a narrow build and I don’t think there’s the kind of projection you might expect from that height. Some added strength might help him smooth out the arm swing, but right now his arm is often late and he doesn’t repeat it.

The Brewers are doing the right thing by bringing him along slowly, since he’s not holding velocity even into the fourth inning, and should keep working him as a starter for now so he can get more reps. I’d like to see some development of a third pitch, even if he’s destined for relief, as he can always shelve it if he doesn’t need it. The good news is that Misiorowski’s upside in relief is quite high — a right-handed Josh Hader, perhaps? — if I’m right that he won’t hold up or throw anywhere near enough strikes to start.

Same. The one encouraging thing is his K ratio is under 30% this year. If he is figuring that out, I would not mind taking one last ride and see what happens. In 2019 he showed he can hit major league pitching at least, but reality is he probably is who he is at this point.

Two kids on BA's Hot Sheet this week:

5. Jeferson Quero, C, Brewers
Team: Double-A Biloxi (Southern)
Age: 20

Why He’s Here: .318/.348/1.000 (7-for-22), 5 R, 0 2B, 0 3B, 5 HR, 10 RBIs, 1 BB, 4 SO

The Scoop: Quero is quickly vying for a spot among the game’s elite catching prospects. The 20-year-old has hit for both average and power in his first test at the upper levels, but he went truly berzerk this past week in Chattanooga. Entering the series, Quero had three home runs. After the series, he had eight, pushing him into a tie for second place in the league (a spot also held by fellow Hot Sheeter Noelvi Marte). That’s even more impressive considering he opened the season as the third-youngest position player—but only the second-youngest Quero—in the league. To make matters more interesting, Quero has not had his immense arm talent muted by the more baserunner-friendly rules. He’s caught 9 of 23 runners attempting to steal, good for a clip of 39%. (JN)

Luis Lara, OF, Brewers
Team: Low-A Carolina (Carolina)
Age: 18

Why He’s Here: .385/.500/.500 (10-for-26), 5 R, 0 2B, 0 3B, 1 HR, 4 RBIs, 6 BB, 2 SO, 4-for-5 SB

The Scoop: You may have heard of the last Brewers teenage outfield prospect to be assigned to Low-A Carolina in the second month of the season. That would be our No. 1 overall prospect Jackson Chourio. While Lara lacks the impact of Chourio, he has an advanced hit tool and speed on the bases. Over 18 games with Low-A Carolina Lara has seven strikeouts to 15 walks and a 6.1% swinging strike rate. His ability to make loads of contact and control the strike zone against older competitors is an excellent sign of Lara’s polished and high-end hit tool. The Venezuelan outfielder should rise up lists throughout the season as he continues to display advanced plate skills. (GP)
