Are the Brewers only looking for pitching prospects in return for Greinke? Norris + Gose/Marisnick/Hech?

I'd rather not deal Syndergaard. He's our Verlander. :D

I would have to think a good SS prospect would be near their list and yes, probably starting pitching. I know they have last year's 1st rd picks but I think they are at least a year away yet and I can't honestly say how they are doing. I know alot of 1st rd picks from a few years back are fizzling out. The Rogers never made, I think the Arnett got crushed out of Single-A at one point, etc. Is JM Gold still in the mix? :)

I have a feeling we'll trade Grienke, and K. Rod in a package deal. Gotta think that if the Philles sign Hamles to a extension they might trade C.Lee, but doubt it. Meaning I have to think that the Rangers and Angels will be fighting for Grienke. Rangers, as we've talked about have a stud 3b prospect, and some good SP's. Angels could offer CF Bourjos, and some other prospects. Also in Anahiem they could have K. Rod back!!!

But I estimate that we'll trade Grienke, K. Rod, either N. Morgan or C. Gomez, K. Loe, and maybe somebody else.

Greinke's start tonight is big. If he pitches well he needs to be gone before his next start.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I would be looking for the best prospects I can get and I'm trying not to think of what's going through the minds of our crazy ass front office and trying to forget about the last "sell" trade we made.

Wanting the big bat now and hoping to keep him longer, the Texas Rangers acquired All-Star slugger Carlos Lee from the Milwaukee Brewers in a six-player deal Friday.

The Brewers got reliever Francisco Cordero and outfielders Kevin Mench and Laynce Nix, and minor league left-hander Julian Cordero -- no relation to Francisco. Minor league outfielder Nelson Cruz also went to the Rangers and was added to their major league roster.

Did we really need to throw in Cruz on that deal? Shoulda just done Lee for CoCo strait up but I don't know any of the particulars from that deal.

First we wanted to do Lee for Cordero and Mench but the Rangers didn't want to so we added Cruz and they added Nix to make it "fair."

In Williams’ perfect world, it may be Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Zack Greinke.

The White Sox want to add another starting pitcher and Greinke is high on their wish list, according to major-league sources.

The question is how Williams, with a thin farm system, could muster a package to acquire Greinke. And the answer may be by trading right-hander Gavin Floyd for prospects that the Sox then could add to a deal for Greinke, who is a potential free agent.

The upgrade from Floyd to Greinke over 10 to 12 starts might not be terribly significant, but Greinke potentially is much more of a difference-maker, particularly if the White Sox reach the postseason.

What’s more, the Sox are eager to move Floyd, sources say.

So, here is one scenario based on recent scouting activity. It is purely speculative, and certain caveats apply. But the idea is this:

Floyd to the Blue Jays for a package headed by Class A left-hander Justin Nicolino, then Nicolino and another piece – perhaps one of the White Sox’s young major-league relievers, perhaps one of their outfield prospects, Jared Mitchell or Trayce Thompson – for Greinke.

Nicolino, 20, was the Jays’ No. 5 prospect entering the season, according to Baseball America. The White Sox scouted his most recent start on Sunday. And the Blue Jays had two scouts at Floyd’s start on Monday night.

Now, it’s possible that this all means nothing.

So dumb I almost expect it to happen.

Amazing thing is the price for an elite RHP seems high.

Greinke HAS to have a good showing tonight.

To me, there are only two options, re-sign or trade. Our comp pick is going to be mid 30's. If Melvin can't do better than that via trade, he needs to go.

Yet the Braves and Tigers were willing to part with top prospects for worse rental pitchers today.

Would Turner or Delgado be enough for you?

By the way, Rosenthal is on MLB Tonight. He said that teams want to see Greinke pitch before they trade for him. Step back from the ledge.

Yea, Melvin came out with direct honesty and said so, saying that it's really important for the Brewers that Zack pitches well the next start or two because many teams will be watching closely.

Jim Bowden

Brewers would love to be able to turn Aramis Ramirez into Zach Lee of Dodgers then turn Greinke into Mike Olt of the Rangers but unlikely

:o That's pretty awful, but I can't see Melvin getting screwed on a Greinke deal. There's a huge demand for starting pitching and Greinke leads the list of supply.

I hope the Jays can land Greinke. I think Greinke's 2009 season was better than Verlander's MVP season.

Would love it if that happened....I mentioned a similar trade on 1250 this morning but we were getting Webster instead of Lee

Yeah, I mentioned that trade early in this thread. One of the worst trades I have witnessed from a team that I follow. Hind sight or not, it was bad when it happened and it is excruciatingly bad now.
