I've mentioned this before but if we can trade Grienke for Olt and get rid of Aramis, why not make a run for Hanley and atleast have our SS set for the next two years and maybe Orlando Arcia would be ready by 2015. The report out there now is that the marlins would have to pick up some of his remaining 38.5 salary for him to be traded.......also, I'd rather pay him $16mil in 2014 when he's 30 than pay Aramis $16mil in 2014 when he's 36. Olt could be ready to contribute as early as next year and i can see .270, 25hr 70rbi

Hanley is as much of a shortstop as I am.

But if Aramis is going out he could play 3rd.

I'm sure there a worse moves out there Melvin could make, then again he's been pretty bad the last couple of years.

He doesn't have the bat for 3rd anymore.

Even in his worst year, he was a -10 UZR guy. He's not Braun at 3B bad and would be big positive at the position over Yuni and Izturis or any other type of SS the Brewers are going to reasonably able to acquire.

and the Rangers DFAed Nelson Cruz and NO ONE in baseball wanted him.

Yeah and every team in baseball made a mistake, except the Brewers who made it twice. Even if the Rangers would have agreed to the Lee for Mench and Cordero it still would have been an awful trade. The two picks alone were worth more than a reliever and mediocre at best outfielder.

When that trade went down I was telling my friend from New York how awful it was and what an awful return we got for an all-star LF and a good OF prospect, and he tried selling me on Kevin Mench being a very good productive outfielder, IIRC he even went to the extent of saying he would be a "sure 30 HR 100 RBI guy for you guys". I did not let him live that down for like 4 years.

Hanley to the Dodgers. I think this has serious "change-of-scenery situation" potential for Ramirez. I don't get how a beast offensive talent like him can take such a dive when entering his prime. I wouldn't have minded taking a flier on him.

I think now that Hamels resigned w/ Philly. Grienke will be the main guy out there. I still think we deal him somewhere out west like TX or to ATL. around R. Delgado.

A. Ramirez could be gone too. A's, our someone looking for a good power 3B. Shoot maybe even the Yankees since A. Rod is out for a while with a broken hand.

Where do others think K. Rod will go?

I don't think we get much of anything for K Rod, so I'm not sure it matters where he goes.

A-Rod fractured his hand, 4ish weeks of being out, so maybe Aramis is a bit expensive for that but a thought.

I know the A's bought Cespedes, but most I their other guys are cheap power bats. I'm skeptical that they'd pay that much, but it's worth a try.

I still think Olt is the most realistic prospect option. That would open up trade options on Hart/Gamel/Ramirez, since you can't really start all three of those guys. You'd figure if you kept all three, Ramirez moves to 1B and Hart back to RF, with Gamel being a top bench guy.

I think the Rangers are about to be off the market. Sounds like they've offered Olt to Miami for Josh Johnson (signed through next season). Miami just moved their 3B so I'm guessing that deal gets done.

Is there a prospect better than Olt rumored to be on the market right now?
