Re: 2021 Brewers News/Trades/Transactions - Williams out for season
I know too many people in my life that are wall punchers. Almost every single one had mental illness and or addiction issues.
I’m going to hope this is a wake up call for this kid and hope it was just a bad night and nothing more.

Re: 2021 Brewers News/Trades/Transactions - Williams out for season
As doom and gloom as it's sorta been the last couple weeks, this is cool.
What I think is unique with this year though is I don't feel like it's this season or bust. Obviously they're very well set up to win it all, but if they don't they're still gonna return an absolutely ridiculous pitching staff that can withstand some injuries. The offense was mediocre to bad all year, and they still ran away with the division.
But for real, win it all this season.

Law said in his chat he's heard from people that Stearns has already turned the Mets down.

It has to be tempting for Stearns to think about what he could do with a lot more money to spend. But maybe he likes the challenge of trying to do more with less.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Tempted to take a flyer on Restaurant TBNL tickets for game 7 of NLCS for $175 a piece. They have 'indoor' and 'outdoor' is one better than the other and thoughts? (Unlikely cause we would need to win, dodgers win, and have a game 7, but willing to have the hold on the card to go to a special game)

I've never sat there but outdoor would definitely be better for viewing the game. No risk, I'd do it .

I'm curious, when it was Friday's there was a food purchase requirement for each ticket, is that still the case ?

I didn't see anything and in fact included $30 credit a ticket. I bet they assume anyone paying $200 for a ticket will not think twice ordering drinks all game.

Need a serious bat or two and the easiest and most obvious place is first base. Yeah, Tellez had a couple of big hits but him and Vogelbach are not full time options on a contending team at such an important offensive position.
Third base is an option if the right guy is available. I like Urias more than the first base guys and would be fine with him there if moves are made elsewhere.
Outfield is where interesting decisions will be made. I really am in favor of giving Taylor a shot at full time at bats.
Yelich… man. Due to that contract and past production, he’s obviously going to get every opportunity to turn things around. I don’t bank on him turning it around though. You don’t go into the season expecting him to be the same middle of the order guy. Not that batting order matters that much, but have him lower in the order. Guys that hit 2/3 every day get the most at bats with guys on and teams rely on them. Give him a shot to bounce back in a lesser role. In other words, add better bats that justify hitting yelich 7th and not 3rd.
My vote would be to add the best bats you can at 1st base and one in the OF. Play Taylor, play Urias.

Assuming Avi opts out and JBJ opts in we're at $97 million with Yelich and Cain accounting for $43 million of it.

Yelich's performance matters more than anyone else because of how much he makes and how poorly he's played, and they need someone else to try to fix his swing regardless of if Haines is a good coach overall or not. When stats like sweet spot%, hard hit %, and launch angle are at or very close to career worsts it's not some mental hurdle that the Brewers can afford to sit back and wait for him to figure out.

I've been saying for months (outside of his rehab) that Taylor should be getting at-bats over Yelich. I know it was never realistically going to happen, but I have little doubt he would've produced better in the postseason than Yelich.
Yelich for the season: 9 HRs, 51 RBIs and .248/.362/.373 splits across 399 ABs.
Taylor for the season: 12 HRs, 43 RBIs and .247/.321/.457 splits across 243 ABs. That's 20 HRs and 61 RBs extrapolated across 399 ABs.
A small market team like the Brewers can't afford to pay Yelich $26M/year to be a singles hitter.

I suspect the Mets are going to approach Stearns again.

Stearns has one year left on his contract and the Brewers declined the Mets request to talk to Stearns last year. But there's speculation that if Stearns won't sign an extension they might be willing to work out a trade with the Mets.

Re: 2022 Brewers Trades, Transactions, News - Opening Day vs Arizona 3/31/22
Yeah, they just declined the Mets request. Total guess but this is the order of likelihood in how this plays out.
1. He signs another extension
2. Traded to the Mets
3. Finishes this year and then goes somewhere.
The good thing is that I doubt the Mets want a lame duck interim season waiting for Stearns. So that means they might be pretty motivated to work out a trade.

The NYP article speculated Billy Beane might be interested but that's been nixed.

I'm surprised when Stearns was given a new job title he wasn't given an extension?

Might not have wanted one for this very reason. If Stearns has two more years on his deal it gives him much less negotiating room in negotiating his exit.
