Re: MLB Offseason Signings & Trades
I predicted 7/$120 for Reyes so this is pretty close. I knew he would be grossly overpaid.
The only scenario that I can see for Rollins is if negotations with the Phillies become acrimonious because of his delusions about how much he should get and how many years it should be. Then he might refuse to re-sign with them out of spite and get a reality check in the open market, ending up with a team like Milwaukee for less than what the Phillies offered. On the other hand, you don't really want be the team that gives a bitter player the last contract of his career. See: Anthony Mason.
I still don't understand why people insist on saying he can't hit anymore. Just because he's nowhere near his former self doesn't me he's not still better than most NL SS's. It's not like you should be comparing him to first basemen or left-fielders.

No thanks.
From what I understand, the deal is actually worth more like $57 million or something. Saw that on ESPN, don't know why.

Also - I'm not sure that we're completely out of the Prince sweepstakes. Something is telling me the market for him isn't as great as he might like. Maybe 6/120 keeps him.

I might be making this up, but I swore someone on ESPN said something about the contract potentially being worth significantly less. Maybe there are options in the agreement. Don't know though.

Somebody on brewerfan.net posted the same thing. It's just ESPN making crap up again. Like Wisconsin looking like the love child of Minnesota and Vermont.

That's a bummer. He played a huge role for us in the playoffs. I wonder if Melvin gave him an offer.

It was the only offer Melvin had on the table.

Re: MLB Offseason Signings & Trades
Yeah, Yuni is gonna be back next year, and I just know Melvin is going to end up paying him more when you combine the contract and buyout than if we had just picked up the option.

I think he'll be back, but there's absolutely no way he gets $4m. It will be much closer to $2m. I all but guarantee it, and I'm usually supremely cynical when I predict how much free agent athletes are going to get.

I don't know where they're getting this money, but I would not mind in the least to see Albert head to Miami.
That would mean Gaby Sanchez is available.

Re: MLB Offseason Signings & Trades
My hope is actually for the Cards to keep Pujols at an exorbitant price. I think that will handicap a key rival for years to come. Ditto for the Cubs - I hope they give Prince more than $25m per year. Only the Yankees and Red Sox can light money on fire like that. Every other team has to be responsible to one degree or another. Here's hoping the Brewers show us some serious fiscal discipline this winter, because they are set up to be solid for years to come if they don't screw it up.
