Neither McGwire or Palmeiro have remotely the same HOF resume as Bonds.

This probably would have been my ballot:

Clemens
Bonds
Lofton
McGwire
Martinez
Piaza
Raines
Schilling
Bagwell

I think this is the point. Barry Bonds is what, the second best position player in the history of the game? Its not even too hard to argue that he was the best player ever. Meanwhile, Palmeiro was never in the top 5 of an MVP vote. I don't care if voters want to make an example out of him. But you just can't omit Clemens and Bonds. I mean I hate Clemens but who has been better than him? EVER?

For the two of them to get less than half the votes necessary is just laughable. If two people had omitted them I would be here making fun of those two people. For most of them to do it is just pathetic.

LaRoche gets $10m, $12m, $2m mutual buyout. Basically 2/$24m guaranteed. I would have taken that over Hart and his contract situation every day of the week, especially since LaRoche is a much-needed left-handed hitter.

To say nothing of the fact that you could probably trade Hart for a decent prospect, which has to factor into the equation as well.

There's no debate about that. My issue in general is with the view that they aren't hall of famers because of their PED use.

I agree with that, no doubt.

Wait, what? $14 million/year for potentially 3 years of a decent reliever?

The Brewers are ****.

Well, point taken...but...

It's 14 million A YEAR. Two years plus an option for a third.

Yup. But like I said, he's playing with couch money. When you're one of the world's richest you can throw around stupid money.

Put it this way: if you were told you could have Soriano and it wouldn't affect the budget over the next three years, no matter the cost, wouldn't you take him?

He's more than decent, he's really damn good actually. But that is a ton of money.

Of course he's good, but at $14 million a year that's hilarious.

Mariners/A's/Nats complete a 3 team deal. I have no idea wtf the A's are doing.

Mariners trade: John Jaso
Mariners get: Mike Morse

A's trade: A.J. Cole (top prospect that the Nats traded to them in the Gio Gonzalez deal)
A's get: John Jaso

Nats trade: Mike Morse
Nats get: A.J. Cole

So pretty much the A's get rid of the best player involved in the trade and receive the worst player involved in the trade? MONEYBALL!

I should add that if Jaso hits like he did last year, this deal looks good for the A's. The problem is he's 29 and has never come close to hitting that well, especially power wise so I have my doubts.

I know AJ Coles isn't on the level of the Royals guys or Trevor Bauer, but what is going on in baseball with prospect trades? Total 180 from 2 years ago when no one would give up anyone.
