This is on Gio. We staked him to a 6 run lead with a tired bullpen and he couldn't even give us 5 innings.

Does 7 runs win this game? It should but this feels like the shakiest three run lead ever.

Okay? The result was bad, that doesn't mean the decision was bad and didn't make sense.

The result was bad because it was a poor choice. Thames has been a **** player for 3 months. I'm not even a proponent of Santana here. Really, I'm not. The triple from Thames last night was a farce. We all know it. The point is: there is a better option. Granderson being the primary. It's the same in the pitching department. I'll say it again: Counsell has cost this team at least 5 games with poor decisionmaking. In an extremely tight race, that means a **** ton.

So you're just going to ignore that Thames has a .429 OBP in September, which is higher than Santana's because Thames was bad the two months prior?

Answer this question. Do you want the left handed hitter with a small sample .429 OBP who makes a little more contact and hits the ball in the air a lot more which would eliminate the double play (unless there was a line drive right at an infielder in which case it wouldn't have been a bad at bat and there would be no complaints) or do you want a .400 OBP right handed batter who makes less contact and when he does it's on the ground nearly 50% of the time drastically increasing the possibility of a double play?

DUDE. Read my f'ng words prior: I don't want Santana there in this situation. Granderson. Period.

And, if were a manager, and given those statistics, I would choose Thames. BUT, I'm not a manager. It still doesn't mean it's the correct decision. As an emotional fan, I believe Thames is a **** baseball player. I also believe Santana is a promising baseball player who has gained traction in the past couple months. He's a more valuable player. He's more clutch. He is more integral if an injury were to happen in the OF. Maybe it's my inner Ned Yost? I don't know. BUT, I go Granderson; Santana; then Thames 7 days a week. So be it.

The Cubs having to suffer playing the Pirates is bringing me joy right now. Not quite sure how they are only 3 games over .500.

These are very ironic arguments. Santanta has a 1.295 OPS this month vs. Thames' .866. He's getting tattooed in that department. And as far as contact, as I demonstrated, Thames had even worse k's per AB the last two seasons, and he's considerably worse in BA. He's a worse contact hitter and in much worse form. Yes, he was a better option than Thames in that situation. But it was a false dilemma when reminded Granderson was also available. So either way Counsell focked up.

I really like the recent call-up version of Woodruff. Much more refined and in control.

Curious why they didn't double switch and bring arcia in for Perez.
