Re: Trade Rumors Thread
I won't pretend to know anything about prospects, so who should we target from the Sox if they want Greinke that bad?

Literally no one. Their farm system is that bad that I wouldn't take any combination of prospects they could put together.

Re: Trade Rumors Thread
Is there anything special about Garrett Richards that I'm missing? He was the #86 prospect going into his season but his minors numbers are not really spectacular and he is beginning to be caught on to and suck in the majors.

There is worse we could do, given that De Aza is under team control for like 4 more years...but he's not that great of a prospect. Not a whole lot better than Nyjer Morgan's abilities outside of power. Oh, and he's already 28.

The Miami Marlins.
An official of one club that spoke with the Marlins' brass told the Daily Rumble on Wednesday that he would estimate the odds Johnson stays in Miami at "95 percent."
This, that official said, is not Wayne Huizenga's Marlins. And what's transpiring now is not a fire sale. It's a statement, mostly, that the Marlins of Hanley Ramirez and his friends had proven they couldn't win and wouldn't win. So they're looking for a whole new recipe. But they'll move Johnson only for a monster return.
An executive of another club reports the Marlins say they will trade Johnson only for a package centered around a young, star-caliber player who isn't arbitration-eligible. So who's that? Mike Trout? Stephen Strasburg? Chris Sale?
Good news for the Brewers.
Miami really has no reason to trade Johnson unless they get a boatload in return given that he's got another year left on his deal.

Re: Trade Rumors Thread - Brewers Open for Business (30)
The Brewers are ready to sell.
In fact, according to sources, they could start trading players away as soon as today (Wednesday), after a disastrous road trip that began with three straight losses in Cincinnati and ended with three even-worse losses in Philadelphia.
When the trip began last week, general manager Doug Melvin told his staff, "If we lose five out of six, we're selling."
They lost six of six.
The first trade or trades will likely be smaller ones, but the Brewers are also talking to teams about Zack Greinke, perhaps the best starting pitcher available this month. As CBSSports.com has reported for the last several days, the Rangers, Angels, Braves and White Sox have been the teams showing the most interest in Greinke.
Other Brewers players who could draw interest include third baseman Aramis Ramirez, first baseman-outfielder Corey Hart and catcher George Kottaras. The Brewers would love to move starter Randy Wolf and reliever Francisco Rodriguez, as well, but neither has much value.
The Giants were one team that did have interest in Rodriguez, but he had two more terrible outings in Philadelphia, with Giants scout Pat Burrell in attendance. The Giants, sources said, decided against pursuing him.
As for Wolf, he said the other day, "I don't know how many guys are interested in a 5-plus ERA guy."

It makes me really nervous that we could have lost both series 2-1 and would have at least thought about chasing the playoffs.

What a dumb comment by Melvin. So if they win 2 out of 6, what happens?

I like the Angels as maybe our best bet. I think we can get the three guys I covet, Richards, Segura, and Cron for Greinke and a bullpen arm like Loe.. I'd be quite happy with that.

Re: Trade Rumors Thread - Brewers Open for Business (30)
Why does everyone covet Garrett Richards?
He had a hot start that a lot of young pitchers that the book isn't out on come up to the majors with this season but now has started to get slammed.
He ranked in at the #86 prospect so he shows up somewhere, he'll start out next season at 25, so he's not "old" but also should be a bit polished at this point, and he had a 5.40 ERA in the hitter-friendly PCL AAA league this year. Before that, he didn't have an incredibly high K/9 (it wasn't bad in the lower levels), and his K/BB ratio isn't eye-popping either.
Can anyone explain the Garrett Richards love? I'm not a scout, so I don't know.

Trade Greinke, KRod, Kottaras, Gomez. Keep ARam and Hart. Trade for prospects ready to make an impact at the ML level next year. This team doesn't need a rebuild, it needs a slight restock.

That said, I do like Segura a bit. Don't know anything about his defense but he's gotten on base, is young, fast, and seemed to be developing a bit of power at the end of his stint in the minors.

No, trade for the best prospects. I don't want them taking a lesser deal because they are close to the majors.

Trade for the best prospects that will be ready to play for the Milwaukee Brewers next season.
