fwiw, to answer the question of why he said it, from roto:

Brewers general manager Doug Melvin indicated to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com on Thursday night that Zack Greinke is not a sure thing to be traded.
More accurately, Melvin was trying to downplay a USA Today story where he confirmed that Greinke would "definitely" be traded. "I just said there was that possibility," said Melvin. "I don't think there's any secret, with the Trade Deadline, that this is a possibility. Zack knows that. We know that. Other teams know that." There's always the chance that the Brewers could keep Greinke for the rest of the year and make him a qualifying offer to secure draft pick compensation, but we still fully expect he'll get dealt before Tuesday's non-waiver trade deadline. The Rangers, Angels, Braves and White Sox have reportedly expressed the most interest in the impending free agent.

Sticking by my prediction that Zack Greinke will pitch for his new team on Sunday, not the #Brewers. Makes zero sense to pitch for them.

Definitely happening tomorrow, if not later today.

Agreed, even if we don't have a deal by then and RR and Mel pitches him I'm gonna snap. His value can only go down from where it's at.

There is no way they pitch him on Sunday. None.

Herb's probably on the phone to Mark, telling him not to make the trade, that the 8th seed is still a possibility.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

A trade today would be super and a lovely way to make a long Friday go a hell of a lot faster.

Dumpster declines a deal that would net them Delgado and now Garza is on the shelf with an injury. Love it.

Crasnick

Sources say the #Marlins are asking for each team's top 2 or 3 prospects in every trade scenario involving Josh Johnson.

We're talking Jurickson Profar-Travis D'Arnaud types just to get talks moving, then a lot more beyond that.

jcrasnick: So unless the #Marlins lower their sights considerably before Tuesday, that doesn't bode well for Johnson being dealt.

At this point, I'll be shocked if we don't get one of Olt, Teheran, Segura at minimum.

The fact that the rumor mill on Greinke has gone silent last night and now today leads me to believe something is definately going to happen shortly.

I really like how the Angels have emerged in this. If for no other reason than to drive the price up for a devisional rival. If Melvin can't come away with a good package here I will lose what little faith I have left in him.

Agreed, to have a team get Greinke to pitch right away on sunday would be big.

I thought it was TBD after they took Santana out a couple days ago.

I actually strongly prefer trading with the Angels. I think we can come away with all three of Segura Richards Walden if we add an afterthought piece like Wolf or Low.
