Why don't you want him as manager? I don't have any info or thoughts on Weeks either way. Just curious.

I've discussed this before but since you asked, he lost his starting spot and was being platooned with Scooter Gennett, with Gennett getting most of the playing time. Team had some injuries and Khris Davis was struggling and Weeks was asked if he would consider playing left field. Weeks refused. I get that changing positions during the season would have been a challenge but he wouldn't even give it a try to help the team. That rubbed me the wrong way. When he was made bench coach it was assumed he would be taking over for Murphy as manager. Now he's bailed on that job. Perhaps, I don't know this, he assumed Murphy would only manage a year or two and got tired of waiting. The fact he wasn't replaced probably means he wasn't adding any value in the dugout anyway. In any case I don't want anything to do with him as manager.

There are alot of assumptions in the bolded part

That part is all assumption. That's why I said "I don't know this". It does seem odd that he was brought in as bench coach to eventually replace Murphy and now was reassigned to scouting duties after he discussed with Arnold "his career path".

“As I talked to Rickie about his future and the Brewers’ future, I felt like he and I were aligned on what he thought would be best to help the organization and build his resume professionally,” Brewers president of baseball operations Matt Arnold said. “It’s a really cool opportunity. He’s obviously worn a lot of different hats for us.”

Asked whether the change was initiated by Weeks or by the Brewers, Arnold said, “A combination. We talked at the end of the season about, ‘Where do you see this going in your career?’ I think it was a combination of conversations for both of us.”

Hopefully that career path takes him somewhere other than the managers seat.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I wonder what's up with Contreras. They went down this road last year and settled before the hearing.

At some point it has to get tiring for these guys feeling like they're getting lowballed/cheaped out on.

They can be tired of it, ball out, and go cash in somewhere else while they decline into a player not worth the contract.

Works out for everybody involved, but less often the team that acquires/signs the former Brewer player.

This isn't that rare (Contreras) but stuff like this really upsets the casuals. It's not a big deal.

Good for him, he's given us like 13+ WAR in the past 3 seasons for pennies. He should be fighting for every dollar while he can.

It sounds like we're at least entertaining offers for Peralta. Wouldn't go over too well with the fan base but it makes sense. One more year on his deal, we're probably not re-signing, and he might regress back to being the very good #3/passable #2 he was in 2022-2024. I'm ambivalent on whether we SHOULD but won't be shocked either way.

Any merit to these articles floating around saying Brewers are moving closer to trading Freddy with the Yankees and D-Backs being the front runners? The packages would be based around Luis Gil or Ryne Nelson respectively pending the team.

Read on Twitter
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

Idk anything about Ryne Nelson, but I'd rather just keep Freddy than trade him for Gil unless we get other prospect capital coming back. Gil is only 2 years younger than Freddy with two more years of control but a way worse track record of health.

But yeah I'm leaning towards Freddy getting traded.

Brewers used to have a winter warm-up/fanfest in January. 2 days at the convention center. Autograph sessions, Q&A with players, manager, GM, etc.. Kids activities. It was popular and drew large crowds. It was fun. Then they moved it to the Milwaukee Theater and then.... nothing. This will be the second year they've done nothing. Actually I think last year they did something at a bar with a few players.

Good job Brewers.

The Dodgers could offer their top 10 prospects and I would still tell them to **** off.

I would be curious to know the rationale from their end. It did always seem like a popular event. Usually the players would show up for a Bucks game, etc. Feel like coming off a historic team season that it be popular. Tougher to get players back in January?

From what I've heard, but can't verify, it was a budgetary decision. Big convention center to a smaller venue to a bar to nothing. The players seemed to like it and it was only a weekend commitment. Mix of current players, prospects and former players.

We're coming off the best record in the league and there is no buzz at all around the team. We did get swept but we also bounced the Cubs. We've made a couple of marginal moves and everyone knows Freddy is gone sooner or later. Maybe the buzz starts with Packer season over ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Seems like it's more when and not if. With every potential contender calling the asking price needs to be huge.

Yeah the comments online seem to indicate it's pretty fun. That's another thing they used to do, a road show with players and the manager. Now it's just the manager.

Interestingly there is an autograph show going on in town Jan. 31/Feb 1. Lots of Packers and Brewers. Current and former. Mis will be there, Fielder, Rollie, Yount, Molitor and others. Still odd the Brewers are having no event in town whatsoever.
